I can’t make mass
crying
this week because I have to take a flight tomorrow afternoon. If I go to a mass at 8:30 tomorrow, on Saturday morning, will this count toward my weekly obligation?
No. Only the vigil Mass on Saturday evening fulfills your Sunday obligation. Have you checked to see if there are Sunday evening Masses available where you will be?I can’t make mass this week because I have to take a flight tomorrow afternoon. I’m trying to dig something up. I am praying so hard that something will be available.No. Only the vigil Mass on Saturday evening fulfills your Sunday obligation. Have you checked to see if there are Sunday evening Masses available where you will be?
You might even want to check with the airport. Some airports have Mass in a chapel at the airport.I’m trying to dig something up. I am praying so hard that something will be available.![]()
Canon 1248 §1. A person who assists at a Mass celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the feast day itself or in the evening of the preceding day satisfies the obligation of participating in the Mass.
If you miss Mass on Sunday because of a “grave cause”, that is okay.§2. If participation in the eucharistic celebration becomes impossible because of the absence of a sacred minister or for another grave cause, it is strongly recommended that the faithful take part in a liturgy of the word if such a liturgy is celebrated in a parish church or other sacred place according to the prescripts of the diocesan bishop or that they devote themselves to prayer for a suitable time alone, as a family, or, as the occasion permits, in groups of families.
This has to be something serious though. I don’t think catching a flight can be construed as a grave cause to miss Mass. No, it does not fulfill your obligation. But, remember, there is no obligation if you are UNABLE to attend Mass.
That would depend upon the situation, I think. This has to be something serious though. I don’t think catching a flight can be construed as a grave cause to miss Mass.
