I can’t make mass (:crying:) this week because I have to take a flight tomorrow afternoon. If I go to a mass at 8:30 tomorrow, on Saturday morning, will this count toward my weekly obligation?

No. Only the vigil Mass on Saturday evening fulfills your Sunday obligation. Have you checked to see if there are Sunday evening Masses available where you will be?

I’m trying to dig something up. I am praying so hard that something will be available. 😦

You might even want to check with the airport. Some airports have Mass in a chapel at the airport.

Lots of places have a Teen Mass in the late afternoon or around
6pm. Some places even have a very late spanish mass. Even though I don’t speak spanish I would feel that if that was my only choice I would go to pray and receive communion.

You can search by typing in the name of the airport.

You said you are traveling tomorrow (Saturday). Is there some reason you can’t get to Mass somewhere on Sunday?

Here’s what the Code of Canon Law says about attending Mass:
Canon 1248 §1. A person who assists at a Mass celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the feast day itself or in the evening of the preceding day satisfies the obligation of participating in the Mass.
§2. If participation in the eucharistic celebration becomes impossible because of the absence of a sacred minister or for another grave cause, it is strongly recommended that the faithful take part in a liturgy of the word if such a liturgy is celebrated in a parish church or other sacred place according to the prescripts of the diocesan bishop or that they devote themselves to prayer for a suitable time alone, as a family, or, as the occasion permits, in groups of families.
If you miss Mass on Sunday because of a “grave cause”, that is okay.

No, it does not fulfill your obligation. But, remember, there is no obligation if you are UNABLE to attend Mass.

This has to be something serious though. I don’t think catching a flight can be construed as a grave cause to miss Mass.

That would depend upon the situation, I think. 🙂 Are you catching a flight to visit a dying relative? Are you catching a flight because it is required of your job which feeds your family? Those would be just reasons, I think.
