When and why were the portions of Daniel and Esther removed in protestant Bibles. Was it Luther?

Yup and because it was part of the Dueterocanicals (sp) and Maccabees in them contradicted his belief in Purgatory.

The chapters in question are found in the LXX canon but not in the Palestinian canon. Luther claimed his reason for rejecting the books and those chapters is that they contradicted the rest of scripture (in his opinion).

There are two different versions of the Jewish canon of scripture; one is the Greek, which is the version used in Catholic Bibles. The other is the Hebrew, which is used for many Protestant Bibles, although more & more of them have the additional books/parts of books in a separate section.
Jews today use the shorter Hebrew canon. However, the Septuagint was in use in New Testament times, & this was/is the longer Greek version which stands behind the Latin Vulgate.

Thanks for the help. I wanted to know in advance, I’m sure it will come up soon with my stepdad. He was raised catholic but now is in a non-denominational church and these sorts of things come up.
