Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Yesterday, I finished reading a small book and learned much. For instance: Bl. Mother Teresa chose the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to be the titular (honorary) Feast of the Missionaries of Charity. Why?

In his book, Mother Teresa: In the Shadow of Our Lady, published by Our Sunday Visitor, Father Joseph Langford MC, co-founder of the Missionary of Charity Priests, explains how Mother Teresa encouraged all in her order to ask Mary for “purity of heart”. Mother told them to ask Mary to “lend them her heart” with which to love Jesus. Mother Teresa saw Mary as the “First Missionary of Charity”, as Mary went with haste to bring Jesus to Elizabeth and John (Luke 1:39).

In many places throughout his book, Father helps the reader understand we are all called to go as Mary did, and Mother Teresa did, to bring Jesus to others. Again it is no wonder to me that Mary has been called by more than one Pope to be the “Star of the New Evangelization”. In unique ways, we can all be "Missionaries of Charity ", and “missionaries with pure hearts”, through Mary.

Perhaps I had simply presumed Mother Teresa had a strong devotion to Mary but Father’s book which I purchased and finished reading yesterday has given me far more insight into the depth of her devotion. If anyone is interested in learning more, see HERE.

I learned more from this book than I can write at this point: about Evangelization, about my own interior life – crucial to any effort of Evangelization,-- and about how truly the saints are nurtured by our Mother Mary. Please let us pray for one another, with Mary, to become the saints we are called to be, working by the power of the Holy Spirit to make disciples of Jesus, as He commanded us. Let us pray with the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary for the Church and for the world God so loved that He sent Jesus through Mary.

Mary, my Queen and my Mother, I am all yours. Keep me. Guard me as your property and possession. Help all of us, your children, given to you by Jesus, from His Cross, remain with you in Him and share Him with all we meet.
