Dear everyone,

Our nation is desperate need of prayers. I live in Missouri, which has just passed the horrible Amendment 2 allowing embryonic stem cell research/cloning, egg trafikking, using our tax dollars for their research!

This is a sad sad day for our country! More babies will now be murdered at the embryonic stage and more hurt to woman will result.

Not only this but Arizona has chosen not to ban gay marriage and South Dakota has chosen not to ban abortion!

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon us!

Hi,
Sadly my mom contributed toward passing this. She lives in Missouri. I tried to persuade her but well she is a democrat.😦

Yes. This country needs more prayer than ever. The unborn have no voice and nobody seems to care. Oh woe is me! Lord have mercy on this wretched people.

Here is what some other Catholic’s had to say:

The amendment would ensure that any federally approved stem cell research and treatments would be available in Missouri.

The letter from Catholics for Amendment 2 said the group felt a moral obligation to respond to what it called misinformation, scare tactics and distortions being spread by opponents of the initiative, including the church.

“Some people want to ban all stem cell research,” the letter said. “At the other extreme there are those who would like to see research proceed completely unfettered. We believe that Amendment 2 strikes a responsible balance … (with) clear ethical boundaries and safety guidelines.”

The letter challenges Missouri’s Catholic bishops, who sent letters last week urging parishioners to vote against Amendment 2. It included a brochure that said the amendment also would divert money from college loans and health care, and prohibit any governor, judge or other officials from regulating or limiting the research.

Bishop Robert Finn of the Kansas City-St. Joseph Diocese wrote that the amendment would enshrine in the state constitution the right to clone human beings.

“This extreme protection of one industry, for something that is inherently and gravely immoral, is unprecedented in any state,” Finn wrote.

Good topic, but why the heck is it in Non-Catholic Religions??? Placing it here just because more people will see it here is inconsiderate.

This forum and the Apologetics forum are the most popular because some people don’t want to hear about politics ALL the time. Take it outside, please.

My Recommendation for the people of Missouri

is a new constitutional amendment defining human life at beginning at conception, banning human cloning, and revoking the one just passed (2).

My recommendation for the people of Missouri is, if stem cell research can save your life, take advantage of it.

Adult stem cell…you bet. Killing a human being at it’s earliest stage is not acceptable. Canables eat humans as their choice of food, the Nazi’s experimented on Human beiings and used their consitution allowed it, as their defense at Nuerumburg. The world recognises those actions as atrocities. So is killing the unborn to save yourself.

I live in Missouri too. I want the rest of the nation to forgive us for passing this horrible thing. Please understand it was passed because of deceptive language on the ballot. Despite that it passed with only 50.7% of the vote. We were so close to defeating this it breaks my heart. We worked so hard to pass out flyers and stand outside the polls to inform voters. We only had $3 million to spend and the other side spent $30 million.

I dream that the grassroots coalition that fought this thing might be able to get a citizen’s initiative on the ballot in a couple years to repeal this thing. I think stem cell research should be restricted to adult stem cells only because that is where the cures are coming from. Embryonic stem cells have not cured anything in the 25 years of trying, so the private funding has dried up. That is why they want public funding. This will line the pockets of a few elite scientists and not produce any cures, but lots of false hope.

We need to keep educating people about the difference between adult stem cells research and Embryonic stem cell research because other states will be following Missouri’s lead.

I doubt we’ll ever see eye to eye on this. I fully support embryotic stem cell research and see nothing morally wrong or even morally ambigious about its use.

Valke, Do you support ESCR because “the embryos will be destroyed anyway, might as well use them” which is the argument many people make? When does life begin? 5 minutes before birth? 10? an hour? At conception, a new human being is created. Sure, the embryos might not have a head, two arms, two legs and a torso yet, but its human. I suggest getting an Embryology text book and educating yourself. In twenty years when Adult Stem cells have provided even more treatments for many diseases and conditions, and ESCR has CURED NO ONE, will you change your mind? Just something to think about.

Any Catholic who voted yes on Amendment 2, for the good of their souls, better not recieve communion until they have made a good confession. This is a disaster, and rest assured, we will pay dearly for it.

Why save your life and lose your soul? How is that a good thing? I will never accept those kinds of treatments- if they even come up with them. As it is, I am seriously considering moving away from this state to find a job outside of it when I am done with college- or at least living out of state (I can do that- I am close enough to the border). They let all registered voters vote to amend the constitution. Voters are a very diverse group. They include people with all levels of education, intelligence, and morality. I know of at least some people who voted yes on Amendment 2 without knowing what it was. most of whom know very little about constitutional law, medical ethics, or propaganda techniques.

Please pray for us here.

And I’m sure there were plenty of people who voted “no” without knowing what it was.
In fact, there are probably people posting abou it here that haven’t read it. The amendment only allows Missori to engage in whatever research is permitted under federal law. It does not expand the federal laws that are in place regarding stem cell research.

There are no federal restrictions. There were no restrictions in MO. This was all about money. If they would find a cure (which they won’t). Do you think they’ll hand the cures out to Missourians free b/c we already paid?

Under the Clinton Administration, which made funding family planning a priority, abortion rates declined. From 1990 to 1995, it declined 25%. It dropped another 11% between 1996 and 2000.

The rate has increased under the current administration, which has cut funding for family planning. If you are interested in promotiong a culture of life, as the democratic party apparently is, you should write you your represenatives and ask them in focus their efforts on increasing funds to family planning.

Family planning is another name for “birth control, birth control, birth control”. Does this solve anything? No. What about the chemical abortions NOT reported? Cause there are birth control devices out there that are ABORTIFICENTS. The only abortions reported (if its accurate and you know its not) are the surgical ones. And you changed the subject, I asked you when life begins, Valke. Clinton also was president when the FDA approved the RU-486 (the abortion drug) which has been the cause of at least 7 women’s deaths. And the death of countless unborn children.

and how many deaths resulted from viagra? From Zocar? From asprin? I did not change the subject. When life begins is a question for which the answer varies from people to people. an 8 cell frozen pre-embryo that is not going to be used for anything and that was originally frozen for fertility purposes can, imo, be used for stem cell research and be an ethically and morally valid act. I don’t believe condoms, birth control pills, diaphrams, etc. kill life and are not morally wrong. If you do not draw a line between abortions and birth control, that is your right.

If you view every man who has sex with a condom to be a murderer, that’s your right.

If you equate a woman who takes birth control pills with a murderess, that is your right. I think that such a position is morally reprehensible. That’s my right.

And, btw, part of “family planning” involves education on abstention from sex to teenagers.
