I’ve heard from an agnostic friend and a quote from Martin Luther that the Devil does not liked to be mocked. Is there any Catholic source confirming this? I had just heard this theory for the first time maybe two years ago. I was thinking about it and it makes sense to me because, we all know Lucifer rebelled because of his pride, and, it would make sense he doesn’t like to be mocked because it’s a direct attack on his pride and that is his very essence. BUT, again, I’m just wondering, is there any Catholic (or Orthodox) documents that state such? Luther is hardly one to go to for Theology lessons.

I’m not sure what St. Therese it was, maybe of Avila, but she used to suffer demonic attacks.

One night she wome up to see the figure of Satan at the foot of her bed. She said, “You again.”, turned over and went to sleep.

If that’s not mocking him, I dont’ know what is.

Another Saint, maybe St. John of the Cross (?) also faced this same figure. He told him, “YOU have to admit that Jesus is Lord and Savior.” The figure said back in disgust, “Yesss” and disappeared.

The evil one is mocked when we refuse to fear him. He is mocked when we confront him with the truth and the power we have as the faithful.

That is the documentation you will find woven throughout Catholic theology and stories of the Saints.
