Can someone please tell me the church’s position on modern day prophets? The SDA church believes that Ellen White is a prophetess, because she predicted the 9-11 tragedy by supposedly naming New York City and tall buildings in one of her writings. You can’t argue with the SDA people,(and I don’t WANT to) but it made me wonder what the Catholic church has to say about modern day prophets.

There will be no more prophets, because God’s revelations to us are over…Jesus said so on the cross…it is finished. And that is fitting when you look at the Bible as the story of man…in Genesis, in the OT our salvation was shattered, and restored by Jesus in the New, and final Testament…there really needs to be nothing else said. The only prophecy left to be told would be the second coming, and since Jesus told us that no one would know that date, only the father…there will be no more prophets.

There is such a thing as the gift of prophecy, and some Saints have had such a gift.

In any case…the SDA lady should be said to have the gift of prophesy(I won’t give my own opinion about that…but it is incorrect to say she is a prophet

I know a lady who attends a Church call “The Church of God of Prophecy” and that is what they do during service “prophesize”. They take each others dreams and analize them into prophecy and some people even claim to have visions. To me it smacks to close to fortune telling, and who knows from what force they are getting their information…scarey. I also think a lot of their prophecy is really generic. For instance, walking up on a teenager and saying…“I feel like some of the people you associate with might be involved with drugs or alchohol”…Like I said…it reminds me of fortune telling…

Anywho…There ya go…
