Hi , I’m an ex Hindu and having trouble understanding what idol worship is . What exactly is it. Is insincere idol worship still idol worship . Secondly can you worship yourself by pampering yourself .

Lastly this is a personal question I sometimes accidentally sing or whisper a song praising a Hindu for for a split second and want to stop myself from doing this . It is often played by my non Christian peers and the rhythmic singing causes me to sing along in a second it is not sincere is this a sin what should I do?

Depends on what you mean by insincere.
Are you being made to worship this idol at pain of death, or doing it to ‘blend in’ so to speak? In the first case, it’s certainly a venial sin. In the second, it leans towards mortal.
it is not sincere is this a sin
If you do something involuntarily or out of habit, without intending to, and then stop as soon as you realize what you are doing, no it is not a sin.

  1. There can be a degree of idol worship. An insincere idol worship can be wrong - like keeping a Hindu idol.
  2. Worship is only for God. You can worship yourself if you put the importance of the self like God. Remember the saying by John - let me decrease and you (God) increase.
  3. The are people who advise that we should not sing prayer/hymn of worship of idol/Satan. It may not be a sin but it can open ourselves to the influence of whatever that we worship with our lips,

@Theboi I noticed from your posting history that you’re having a lot of questions recently. I know you mentioned elsewhere that you wouldn’t be able to speak to a priest without your parents knowing due to not having a car, but would they be hostile to your desire to convert or just not understand it? I am asking because if it is possible, I am thinking it would be a great benefit to you to be able to speak with a priest and bring a list of questions to ask. And if you do not think your parents would be hostile to you converting, you may even be able to start the process sooner than you were thinking.
