I have my doubts about certain aspects of the article, but the phrase “…free play allowed by parents has decreased dramatically since 1970” says so much. Kids today are in way too many adult-centered and adult-directed activities. Free play without the intervention of adults teaches kids so many crucial skills that you just can’t get from Coach Smith or from a constantly hovering mom.
