Dear Utah Gentile,

Awwww… big bear hugs I’m so sorry sweetie for your loss. I too lost my mom, just a couple of months ago, and just a couple of days ago my dad asked my opinion about him remarrying some day. It was like a piano fell on me and flattened me like a pancake. But your situation is so much tougher because he didn’t ask your opinion and he has definite plans to remarry. This must be incredibly difficult. Maybe some of the following options could help.
  1. Do you have a Steven’s Ministry at your church? I would look into this – this is a classic topic that they are trained to deal with. Explain to them your situation and ask them if it’s best to meet together with your dad or just one-on-one.
  2. Do you know people who are close to the lady your dad is presently courting? Maybe ask them for their thoughts on her character, their thoughts on her devotion to Christ and the Church, etc. If Christ is truly at the heart of this relationship, it may make it easier for you to find peace about this.
  3. If you feel guilty about any of your feelings about this, I would go and confess what you think you might have done wrong (including uncharitable attitudes). If nothing else, perhaps this will give you some peace of mind that you are being faithful to your covenant relationship with your father, Christ, and your whole family.
I will pray for you and your family during this difficult time.

In Him,
Shy
