My father passed away this morning and my mother has decided since they did not have a “home” church down here in FL she is not going to have a funeral mass. Dad wanted immediate cremation, and she is just not going to have a service at all.

Dad had Parkinson’s dementia, and they had not even been to Mass for a couple years since he got bad.

I feel really badly about this but since I’ve just recently returned to the church myself I don’t know what I can do.

I’m sorry 😦

I’m sure other PP’s will have good advice- I was going to mention you could have a Mass celebrated for your father. Just call up your parish, and ask the secretary about assigning a Mass to him!

I am going to call the Church I’m attending tomorrow or the next day and ask them about that. One of the neighbors already brought over a really nice card saying that he will be remembered in Masses for a year at monestary.

I guess I am just worried about him.

I am sorry for your loss.

I think the plan to call your parish and ask that a Mass be said is a good idea. You might also want to talk with your priest about it, too, to see if he has any other ideas for you.

I will say a prayer for you and your family.

I am so sorry for the loss of your father. May God bring you and your family comfort and peace.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen

UPDATE!!!

Mom asked me this morning if I wanted a Mass and I said “it’s your decision in the end, but yes, I would.”. So we stopped at the Church, spoke to a women who was very helpful and we are going to have a Mass for him.

If I didn’t believe in prayer before this week, I sure can’t deny it now. Jesus heard my prayer and brought my Daddy home and he softened my Mother’s heart.

That is good news that your Dad will have a funeral Mass. May God sustain your family in your grief and bring all of you comfort and peace. I know it is a difficult time, but He is there to sustain you. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

Praise God! That is good to hear.
