I am posting this here as well as a couple of other places in the forum where those who might be interested tend to hand out.

For anyone who is interested, I have started a Facebook group for discussion of Monastic Spirituality. I am hopeful that it can be a place for Catholics in the Latin Church such as those affiliated with the Benedictine or Carthusian Family to have discussions with Eastern Christians, both Catholic and Orthodox, who obviously have an incredible and rich monastic tradition.

For some reason, there are many people who avidly discuss Catholicism and Orthodoxy on Facebook but who do not wish to come to a forum specifically for that purpose. I am hopeful that this page can capture some of those as well as some of the great members we have here as well.

If this link ever goes dead for some reason, I will try to keep an updated hyperlink attached to the picture in my signature block below.

Please consider joining if you are interested in such topics. I hope to see you there.

Peace of Christ,

Promoting monastic life is indeed a noble pursuit, one which the Holy Father asks us to embrace as well. I’ll be sure to visit your Facebook page!

Group description:
This group is a forum for people to discuss monastic spirituality as it pertains to the Christian Tradition. In particular, it is a place for those affiliated with, or interested in, the various monastic orders/families which make up the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. Both Roman and Eastern Catholics are welcome as both Eastern as well as Western Orthodox Christians. The Oriental Churches in communion with either the Catholic or Orthodox Church are also encouraged to join and participate.
Discussions of Christian doctrine and politics as it relates to Christianity will also be allowed and also world and local news which affects the Catholic or Orthodox Churches. Obviously, we do not live as Christians in a vacuum but rather, in the world. As such, it would seem that issues which affect our Christian life should also be discussed. However, because of the tendency for these topics to get off track or heated, discussion of this sort will be carefully moderated. Please do your best to be charitable.
Please feel free to invite any Catholic or Orthodox Christian who is interested in the topic.

Thanks! If things work out well, we might grow to understand each other between Catholic and Orthodox Churches a little better and heck, I might even learn something which I could certainly stand to do.

Peace,

Me too! 😃

BTW - perhaps you might consider asking one or two of the notable mendicants / monastics who frequent CAF to assist you.

Even though I am married, I would love to learn more about the monastic life. I will request to join your group on facebook.

Great to have you. And, I am married also. There is nothing in monastic spirituality that I am aware of which opposes the married vocation in lay persons. In fact, I find it quite the opposite. Case in point, I have been relying heavily on St. Benedict’s command to treat all guests as Christ the past few weeks while my in-laws have been visiting us from Brazil.😃

Peace,

I have sent a request to join. I welcome efforts to reunite East and West which inculcate the richness and the necessity of both “lungs” and which encourage Christians to see all the “Kelvin temperatures” of the Light of Christ, all of which are the Truth of the Gospel.

I just approved a few new members so you should be good to go.

Peace!
