All, for a while I have been confused as to the monastic life=I am attracted to it for th stability and peace, and the diocesan life, which should I choose? I feel peace thinking of the woods, country etc, and the support of a community, something this diocese does not have, and also I am weary of the hustle and bustle of parish life. I lived an early noisy chatotic life and want to spend the rest of it secluded for God. Also, with many bishops having direct monopoly over the diocesan priests, especially in a large archdiocese, the guys seem alone,?

Well, your interests may be indicitive of your call, but be careful not to idealize a vocation such that you have unrealistic expectations which might get bursted in real life. Also make sure that you are running towards something positively rather than away from something challenging.

most monasteries offer a program for young men such as yourself to live in the community for a period of time to experience the reality of the life, and get past the illusions. Your diocesan vocations director can advise you, or go directly to the website of the monastery you are considering.

Most religious orders expect you to have fulfilled your obligations in the world–loans, family etc–before you enter.

One thing to keep in mind is that as a monk you will be very busy as well. With fewer and fewer folks entering monastic life, there are many more demands and a lot of extra work to be done.

Good luck with your discernment. :

God Bless.

Some religious orders exclude student loans from this. That is you must have no debt or obligations excluding student loans which the order will take over when you make your permanent vows, up until then they will make the minimum payments on them.

Serra International was created specifically to foster vocations to the priesthood; part of their effort includes financial assistance:
