Do any other Christian denominations have nuns or monks? If they do, which ones? Do they dress differently than Catholic ones?

Thank you 🙂

I think Episcopalians and Anglicans have monks and nuns but I am not sure.

Yup, there are Anglican/Episcopalian nuns. Not sure about monks. And of course in non-Christian religions there are both monks and nuns as in Buddhism.

Ummm… I think I also found a group of religious sisters who are Lutheran… The Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary.

And one mustn’t forget the Taize, which is a non-denominational religious order.

There’s another non-denom. religious order in Europe but I can’t remember the name…

Found another! The Franciscan Brothers of Mercy is:

*The Franciscan Brothers of Mercy is not affiliated with any particular denomination but desires to be broadly evangelical and available to everyone who can affirm our theological statement of faith and the “Evangelical Celebration” found on our web-site.

The Franciscan Brothers of Mercy submits to the counsel and spiritual direction of several men of different Protestant denominations, men who serve as Pastors, Chaplains and leaders in their particular churches or parachurch ministries. *

Thank you for your answers. They all helped me answer some of my questions.🙂

The Orthodox have monks and nuns as well, and yes they dress differently then RC ones…but even the different RC orders dont dress alike.

Sometimes I think that sects like the Shakers and some others have a lot in common with monastics.

Interesting. We have a group who wishes to snuggle up to a Catholic saint and then submit to the counsel and spiritual direction of several men of different Protestant denominations. I wonder if they are aware that St. Francis preached complete obedience to the Catholic Church.

Lol. I doubt it. Just a “buy as you like” mentality.

In Christ,
Andrew
