We are planning for send my daughter to Montessori for preK and probably Kindergarten if it’s going well and then switching to Catholic school. We debated on just sending her to the Catholic preK and Kingergarten where she will go to grade school, but for us the cost difference is minimal (although both are much higher than public school or traditional preK) and we feel that Montessori is a unique learning opportunity that we don’t want to pass up. Our daughter is very high needs, spirited, but smart. I think she will thrive in the Montessori environment. I know of other children who were diagnosed with ADHD that suddenly disappeared once they switched to Montessori.
Our daughter would probably do fine in traditional preschool as well. She attends an in-home daycare full-time and they do a lot of pre-school activites and she does well there and loves it. She will still go there when she is not at Montessori (ours is half days, 4 days/week). Sending her to Monterssori will certainly be an added expense as we will still have to pay for daycare, but we feel it’s worth it.
I love how Montessori teaches natural consequences to actions and they learn through real-life activies. The school here requires that you visit and have sort of a two-way interview so I would definitely recommend that.
