Are these guys still in business? Is Moon himself still alive?

I had a run-in with this bunch about 12 years ago during my agnostic years. I had never heard of the Unification Church before so it took me a while to figure out that they were the “Moonies.” Well, actually I had accepted an invitation to go with them to a mountain retreat for the weekend and in the car on the way there one said to me, “You’ve probably heard of our founder: Reverend Moon.”

I didn’t know anything about them at the time. Was I going be locked up, kept sleep deprived and hungry while they brain-washed me? Actually, it was very pleasant weekend. Mornings spent listening to lectures on their beliefs, afternoons canoeing and swimming. Super nice people. Kooky, but nice.

Anyone have a link to something about them from a Catholic perspective? Google “unification church” and “catholic” and you mostly get stuff about the African archbishop :dancing: who temporarily defected to them a few years back.

If you read the “False Profit” Special Report on CA, you will find something about the Unification Church because Dr. Tim LaHaye (Left Behind Series) has been in contact with them.

Their leader (not sure if he’s still alive) is Sun Myung Moon. His followers believe he is the new Messiah, and the Lord of the Second Advent.

Ha, I have found a decent website to help you learn more about Reverend Moon and his church.

Or Celestial Seasonings tea.

Hey, those guys sign my paycheck, so watch it. 😉

But, on a serious note, there’s no moonie influence in my office. I know a couple of guys who belong to the church, but they don’t dictate from their “messiah.”

I drink CS Tea…does this group own it? If so, I aint drinking it anymore…that wacko claims to be the Messiah.

I’d highly recommend scrolling down on this site to the “conflict-of-interest” disclaimer first. The author obtained info about the Unification church via a seminar sponsored by the Washington Times (owned by Moon), and received perks from same.

Even though many of the sources listed in the “Coronation” thread have their own spin, there’s still a lot more light shone on the March 23rd D.C. event, as well as Moon’s less-publicized activities and financial/business holdings.

Can’t speak to current ownership, but I know they started it. That’s why I never got into the habit of buying it in the first place.

My brother-in-law has a guru-ish past, and a Harvard MBA. According to him at the time, it had been set up as a kind of ashram, where the followers could work out their – well, whatever it is they work out. He also indicated that wages and working conditions reflected the arrangement.

Before I dropped them, I’d consider looking into their ownership today. But even then, if they produce a good product, and treat their workers fairly, I wouldn’t feel bad about continuing to use the product if I couldn’t find an alternative. But I would look for one.

Blessings,

Gerry

I always thought the Celestial Seasonings packages were new age-ish, cheesy and kooky! I happen to be drinking their Green Tea right now. :whacky: www.celestialseasonings.com If you click the “who we are” button you can read the history of the company their beliefs etc.
