Does anyone know if there is a Catholic equivalent to MOPS? I’m a SAHM looking for some good Catholic support, but I can’t seem to find anything. Can any of you suggest anything that would be of some help?

Thanks.

Mother’s of Preschooler’s (mom’s group)

I don’t know of a Catholic alternative, you could check local parishes to see if they have a mother’s support group.

Our parish has a Mother’s Group which is pretty similiar. We meet once a week at the church hall. The school sends the 7th and 8th graders to help out with babysitting so that the kids CAN go into another room and play. Some (mine inlcuded) chose to stay with us. It is more for us (moms) than the kids in the sense that we do not do child projects and crafts like I think some of the MOPS groups do. Each of us take turns leading a week - by chosing a topic to discuss and bringing a snack. Several of us also meet outside of the regular group and so activities on our own (play dates, walking, etc). If your parish does not have something like this, it would not be hard to set up and I bet you would find a lot of interest.

Good luck!

YES! I know of a great Catholic group called MACH I (Moms And CHildren). Many of the parishes in our diocese & diocese next door use it. It started in 1998 and is one hour of Catholic Moms stuff and second hour of studying upcoming Sunday readings. I have been in it for three years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Contact info/producers are Roberta Johnson or Carol Tepley, Roberta = (218) 236-5396. It was created specifically for Catholic moms - nothing contrary to Church, but is open to all faiths. Has great resources section in back - very orthodox yet not scary for women who are new to the faith. Also - there is no homework!!!
God bless!!

How about Kids for Jesus (K4J)…preK4J is for preschoolers. I take my daughter 1 time per month. It is a very orthodox Catholic program. It used to be called Catholic Kids Net.

You might want to check out TORCH groups too. It stands for Traditions of Roman Catholic Homes. Many TORCH members are homeschoolers but that isn’t a requirement. You can check out the website at catholic-homeschool.com

Regarding MOPS though, I was active for several years and we had lots of Catholics attending. I believe the message was just a simple “Find strength through God” and not particularly Evangelical or anti-Catholic. I think a woman strong in her own Catholic Faith would benefit from attending MOPS (fun - interesting speakers etc.) and also would be a good example to others who, in ignorance, may not view Catholics as Christians. Just my thoughts… 🙂
