One of the things I’m wanting to do this Lent is simplify my life. In our Ash Wednesday Mass yesterday, the priest was talking about ‘less stuff, more time’. So I thought I would get rid of some of the clothes I don’t wear anymore - give them to a charity shop, things like that.
I also want to get rid of some of the books and DVDs I have which, while not outright ‘bad’, aren’t that ‘good’ either, and are more of a distraction than a help when it comes to my relationship with God.

My question is, would it be wrong to sell them on amazon? I could really do with the money! :o The reason I have this dilemma is that
a) I’m doing it for supposedly spiritual reasons - and I think it will help me to get rid of the things in question - but also making financial gain. Is this wrong? Could I maybe ‘tithe’ from my earnings to make up for it
b) If these books and dvds aren’t really good for me, then maybe they wouldn’t be for other people either. So, is it wrong to sell them? I would feel funny just throwing them away.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

You could sell them, since they’re not bad. You could put a warning in the description of the videos, saying they’re not exactly good.

i would sell them, a person that wants it is going to buy it anyways, and it would prevent a new one being produced and one less piece of trash in a landfill.

It might be wrong to sell them on Amazon because you may be able to get more money on eBay! 😛

I think you’re OK to sell them. Actually, I think it’s a pretty good idea for Lent - do you mind if I steal your idea?

I see no issue with selling these things. Maybe you can take some of the money you earn and put it aside for the poor as a Lenten pennence.

Also, you will definately make more $ on Ebay. We’ve been clearing out a lot of extras we have accumulated over the years on Ebay. Its surprising what things sell for.

God Bless.

Hey! Thanks for the Ebay tip, I’ll try there instead. And you’re most welcome to steal my idea! 🙂
I’ll go ahead and sell them, and give some of the money from that to the Church, I’ve decided.
