I have been seeing a Napro doctor for some time now. The doctor is recommending a hysterectomy for a condition that I have. Currently, I am not experiencing any symptoms. If my condition did start to cause problems, then I would like to pursue other options that would allow me to avoid a hysterectomy. The doctor knows how I feel but seems to be very pushy about me getting a hysterectomy. How is it ethical to advise a person to undergo surgery that carries risks to treat an asymptomatic condition. I have also heard that some women experience after effects of a hysterectomy. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I had gynecological cancer that was caught competely by accident. It was asymptomatic and probably would have remained so for many months, or even years. I had a hysterectomy within 5 days of discovery of the disease.

I don’t think anyone here can answer your question. You need to find a doctor you trust and speak with your priest or spiritual advisor if you have those concerns.

I will second the above. But I doubt very much a napro doctor would give immoral advice once you communicated concerns. You should not seek medical advice here.

Seek a second opinion if you are concerned. Doctors don’t recommend hysterectomies lightly, so I’d be inclined to listen to my doctor.
