i own a business selling light bulbs and electrical supply.i sell some products and fixtures that come from china.is there a moral problem here, since we know that china has a one child policy and forces obortions

thankyou.

There is a book, recently published, that I heard about a couple of weeks ago on the radio. Apparently, this family (assuming I heard the story right) that went for a year without buying anything that was made in China.

It sounded from the radio interview that it was a very difficult thing to do, as so many products are either manufactured or use parts manufactured in China.

If your conscience bothers you about this, (and maybe you’ve already done this), consider not selling these products or finding replacements made elsewhere. Sometimes products that we use are only made in China, and we need them, so their is no choice.

I believe this is a situation called ‘remote material cooperation with evil.’ It is not inherently evil to buy and sell these products, but you must be on guard and consult your conscience via regular prayer.

In other words, its a grey area that is hard to discern. The heroic thing would be to not sell them, but we are not required to be heroic on such matters, IIRC.

My family does not buy anything made in China for the reasons you mentioned. If anyone buys something for my family that was made in China, we donate it to charity or give it to someone else who needs it. There have been two exceptions to this: both were gifts from other people for my son. We’ve been living this way for almost two years now. It would be sin for me to buy things made in China because it goes against my conscience and “whatever does not proceed from faith is sin” (Rom 14:23).

I don’t know that what I am doing has any pragmatic effect on the situation in China. I doubt that it does. But the situation over there is so tragic, and I feel like this is the only thing I can do to express my sorrow. I feel impotent, but I take comfort in thinking that, even if nobody else will do this, so that what I’m doing has no impact, “Let God be true though everyone were a liar” (Rom 3:4). I think: “If everyone did this, the Chinese government would be forced to change. Therefore, I’m going to do it, even if no one else will.”

May the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit!

I agree with you that abortion is a sin. However, imagine the following situation with me:

You are now the president China. A country with a population of over +1.3 billion people. Would you allow people to have their choice on how many children they can have? What will happen if people started having as many children as they want?! It would be a disaster; where would you feed those people from? How will you be able to provide schools, hospitals, libraries, etc. for your people? How will you be able to provide jobs for all those people? 🤷 etc.

Don’t you think that it is really hard not to put such policies?!

This attempt to justify the wholesale slaughter of people is off-topic.

Even Old Sam Walmart must be whirling in his grave, as the store that was dedicated to selling only made in the USA has, under his daughters’ ownership become an outlet store for made in China.

Yes the Republican administration is ant-abortion, but not when it comes to making bucks for political donors who make better profits by buying Chinese and selling it to the American people who have lost many jobs through our national trade policy. I don’t think, to be fair, that the Democratic administration was any better.

As a practical matter it is extremely difficult if one uses tools, for example, to find something not made in China even at Sears and Roebucks.

Thank you very much for your opinion. But would you please tell me how can I answer a person who takes what I have said as a Justification?! Or can you give me a link which discusses this issue?!

Thank you in advance 👍

I would begin such a conversation by starting a different thread.
