Someone once asked me…if they committed a moral sin knowingly, and went to take the Eucharist, but asked for the Lords forgiveness before taking the Eucharist, then went to confession and confessed the sin to a priest to be fully absolved of the sin…does the Lord still punish the person for committing the sin and not going right away to have the sin absolved??? I did not know how to answer them

Thanks
God Bless

Someone who has knowingly and willfully committed a mortal sin are not to receive the Eucharist until after they have confessed and been forgiven. To do otherwise is to add a second mortal sin to the first and St. Paul does say that those who receive the Eucharist unworthily will be punished.

Yes, unless that person did not know that receiving the Eucharist in that state was a sacrilege. Again the same would apply that one must know that the act is grave in nature. So the OP’s question would indicate that there would be no second mortal sin due to lack of knowledge. That, however, should always be discerned with a priest in the confessional…teachccd 🙂

That’s true, but from reading many postings on this site, CCC 2352 states that this sin can have factors that would lessen moral cuplability, and if that is the case for an individual, then he/she should take the CCC seriously in that regard and can receive comminion because he/she wouldn’t be in mortal sin.
