It disgusts me.

My wife and I are Pennsylvanian.

My wife is bordering on walking away from The Church.

The men who were supposed to be our authoritative leaders are the worst of the sinners. They have lost all credibility as far as I’m concerned.

Here’s the truly funny part: my wife went to Catholic schools all the way up through high school. Turns out BOTH of her high school religious ed teachers are on the list. One frequently solicited gay prostitutes and also went on vacations with gay prostitutes. The other molested both boys and girls. During the time that my wife was attending school there, which means she’s probably known the victims all her life.

And wait…it gets better: the priest who married us and baptized our first child is on the list for forcing himself on females, both adults and young teenagers.

I’m disgusted. Absolutely disgusted. And these yahoos are going to tell me it’s a MORTAL SIN to miss Mass on Sunday? Seriously? 😝

The only good news out of it is that our current pastor reported an abusive priest and defied his superiors to help one of the victims recover some of his dignity. 😱 Did our priest sin by not following the vicar general’s orders to help with the cover-up? In my mind, our priest is a Godly hero.

And from here on out, it’s what’s in my mind that’s going to count. You better believe I’ll make the most of my Free Will and follow my Conscience.

Well said. Your own free will and agency have to come first in any event, but especially when the safety of your family is at stake.

My opinion is the church is taking the long view. In another 100 years all the Priest and the victims will be long gone. I wish the church would have taken action 30 years ago when this started to come out.

I have met People who wrongly believed that Priests and Religious could do no wrong. However, I was raised understanding that anyone can do something heinous. Nobody is beyond reproach.

If my Parish Priest was revealed to be a terrible person, I expect him to be held accountable. However, I’m not forsaking the Church because a minority of its Clergy are deplorable.

“It is necessary that scandals must come, but woe to them by whom they come.” Yes, you still have the obligation to attend Mass, but woe to those who bring disgrace upon Christ by such crimes, for they drive people away from the Church, where alone they can find salvation. They have blood on their hands, and with those blood-stained hands, they offered the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, mixing the Blood of Christ with that of their victims.

In one sense, it can almost be said that this time, it’s about the BISHOPS - bishops conveniently left out of the Dallas norms. As a Massachusetts resident, my heart goes out to the faithful Catholics of Pennsylvania.

That’s not making me feel better, because I’ll be gone by then, too. The Church has got to get its act together NOW and stop hiding behind centuries of “we know better than you,” obfuscation because the rest of the Catholic faithful, and the world, for that matter, know that They do not know better.

The Schism is going to come not from whether certain people endorse Liberation Theology but from laity that is fed up with the vapid, inertial heads-in-the-sand clericalists who are holding onto their temporal power by their fingernails.

Yes, you still have the obligation to attend Mass,
Says the men who failed at their most essential Christ given mission on Earth.

Credibility: Whether it’s 2,000 years in the making or two weeks in the making , it’s gone.
(mostly I’m talking about the Magesterium, the leadership, the hierarchy).

How else do you propose to receive the Eucharist? “Unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink His Blood, you have no life within you.”

I’ve got to get out of here for the time being. I’m waaay too upset to continue reading and posting.

A Pittsburgh News report KDKA headlines that 301 priests have been named and the abuse occured in every diocese in PA. It’s hard to fathom how, and why so many priests have fallen! If it’s that bad in PA, how about the rest of the nation’s diocese? I can see why Pope Benedict predicted the church and how it will become small and poor in the future. This is outrageous!!

Forty years ago my (late) father would say, “The Church is made up of men, and men are human” as he saw the poison of hypocrisy spread throughout the hierarchy.

And what will be done about it? More “training?” Make CCD teachers, janitors, volunteers, soup kitchen workers watch videos of how and what to report?

More prayer? More “discernment?”

In my opinion the answer is: nothing. Nothing meaningful will be done about it.

And now I’ve really got to be done for the night.
