I am single, not sexually active. Historically my periods lasted 12 days and came as frequently as 21 days apart. I saw an nfp-only gyn. He did blood tests and ultrasounds and ultimately decided I should be on the pill while I was single. (He also encouraged me to find a husband quickly and get pregnant because he couldn’t save my uterus until I was 30. I found those comments to be terribly cold and rather un-Christian, since no one should marry the wrong person just to have babies. But I digress…)
Now I live in an area with no nfp-only gyn’s. I have a pituitary tumor, and last time I was taken off the pill I didn’t have a period at all, so I am back on.
My history has me very concerned about what is going to happen if I ever do get married. Going off the pill would be a major sacrifice for me, but if that is what it takes I have no choice.
Anyways, I have a theoretical question I suppose. My periods last at least 7 days on the pill. Doesn’t that show that my endometrial lining is not “hostile” to a fertilized egg implanting? The pill just gives me a period that is like what normal women have off the pill. And a related question… I have NO period and am not ovulating right now off the pill so since the pill actually gives me some endometrial lining, isn’t that improving the chances that a fertilized egg could implant if I ever ovulated??
The bottom line is I don’t think I will take a chance with the pill if I get married. But I find these questions interesting and I am not sure of the answers. For now I just pray for more gyn’s to come up with workable solutions.
