Hey guys,
Say you confessed lusting, and you thought you made the “perfect” confession (or as perfect as one can get while needing to have made said confession). Your confessor told you to forget about it and get on with your life. Now you remember that some of the things you lusted after were not human… humanoid (elves, etc.), yes, but not human. Must this be reconfessed?

And also, are lustful thoughts only sinful when you summon them up? Like, say one wanders into your mind, and as soon as you’re aware of it, you fight it as hard as you can?

Thanks!

No. Your confession is valid and you should follow your confessor’s advice.

Thoughts come and go. If you hold on and enteratin a lustful thought then you move into sin. Otherwise just let them go…

Thanks! :extrahappy:

For some reason, I’m always scared I haven’t confessed something well enough.

Unless you said, in your original confession, “Father, I lusted after humans. But not after humanoid members of non-human and/or fantastic species, such as, for example (but not limited to), elves, orcs, hippogriffs, and pro-life Democrats,” then, no, you’re fine. You don’t need to identify the species that was the object of your lust; only that you participated in the internal disorder of generalized lust. If you didn’t specifically deny some particular species of lust, you’ve confessed it. Well done.

You must be careful not to be too scrupulous.

I used to be like that too and it’s not from God. You must follow your conscience and always remember that it is the forgiving mercy of Jesus Christ that you seek. If you go in there and confess the best you can then don’t worry.

If you remember a mortal sin afterwords then go back to confession. Otherwise don’t sweat it.
