I have to declare a conflict here - even though I believe in the Crucifix I myself have in my home only a beautiful little olive-wood cross. In my defence however, it is SO pretty
and there IS a darker grain on parts of the wood which to me really looks like a Christ figure.
Anyways, my thoughts are that without Christ’s figure or some other Christian representation on it the cross becomes a generic Roman instrument of punishment. It may as well be the cross Spartacus the gladiator was killed on, or the bad and good thieves who were killed beside Jesus. Ok, my two cents have been spent now
