More parish should include projectors

I have been going to a parish which fortunately have a video projector. It is truly a blessing to be able to see all the liturgy songs and hymns (with nature scenes background), not to mention short videos which provides valuable insights into the Mass theme (Passover, Forgiveness, Hope, etc.)

However I see many parishes sadly do not integrate this device although they could. Does anyone think it would be a valuable resource to have if possible?

We read the hymns from the hymnal, no need for a projector.

Not really sure why you would be watching videos during mass. 🤔

I personally wouldn’t like it. Where I’m from all of the Protestant megachurches have the giant projector screen going on. I prefer looking at the hymnal when needed and having everyone’s attention focused on the altar otherwise.

Personally I think it would feel like a Protestant megachurch if my parish had video projectors. I don’t like the idea. We are fine without them.

My parish is quite large and installed projection screens about four years ago. We are in the round,so a screen on either side allows and I am guessing more active participation in singing. However,it irks me that the Creed comes up each Sunday and it seems to me that should be memorized by the congregation by now.🤨

I have never attended Mass where any kind of audiovisual aid was in use. From the OP’s description, my impression is that his parish is deliberately seeking to blur the line between Christian worship and the entertainment industry.

I’ve been going to Mass for a long time without any projector, but now that I start going to one that has one, it is a game changer for the better.

It does not distract but rather helps me to immerse more into the Mass, both with the images as well as the short video clips.

My home parish is attached to a Catholic School and its presbytery is home to the current Diocesan Vicar General. We have a projector that displays the words of the hymns, and the responses in Mass. It is a wonderful addition to the Mass there, the responses are loud and hearty, and the hymns are sung by everyone.
The weekday Masses have the youngest grades in attendance and loudly responding to the Priest. Especially 'Lord hear our prayer" and the Lord’s Prayer.

Would this work in a large Parish or in the Cathedral? I can see a use for it at the Masses where those who attend infrequently come.
We also have the readings printed on the weekly newsletter. Although the response is always on the projector as is that entire reading.

You hit the nail on the head with that one. The megachurches that utilize the screens in my area have services that are much more a source of entertainment than one of sacredness.

Our Parish does this once a year…for the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. It is done in place of the homily here, so you’re probably right. 😉

We have projectors in my church and they display everything right from the hymns to the homily and prayers . It’s really useful for the younger people

Been to a few parishes that have the big screen pull down or TV…do not like them at all. They use them in other countries as well. I find them offensive to the sacredness of the liturgy. For you it works.

My parish has one that is unobtrusive when not in use, and we don’t use it often. When it is used, I don’t like it.

If I want to watch scenes on projectors, I can stay home and watch home movies. Projectors aren’t appropriate for Mass.

We have these at my parish. I don’t love them, but when I bend my ear to hear my children who have just learned to read praying some of the longer responses they have yet to memorize, I dislike the screens a little less.
