Correct, I am talking (writing) about Far west in Caldwell County. There is a small LDS church accross the street where the curator lives. Presumably they have a congregation that uses it but I have seldom seen any vehicles there. As far as the Morman comunity in the area they are sparse from what I can determine. As mentioned, one of my neighbors is LDS but he and his family are the only ones I am aware of and I have lived in the area for over 15 years. It is my understanding that a lot of the real estate in the area is owned by mormons but by far most of it is rural agricultural property and is leased out to local farmers and cattleman. I read that Joseph Smith brought 3500 settlers with him to far west. Virtually no evidence of their being there remains except for the cathedral sight. About 7 miles to the south lies the village of Mirable (where I live). It had a population of around 3000 in the mid 1800’s. A series of fires in the early 1900’s and the fact that the railroad decided not to run through the town brought upon the towns demize. There is only one small general store and 25 to 30 residents in the village with another 75 to 100 within a two mile radius.
