I’d love to see ParkerD’s comments on those Book of Remembrance posts…and was it just me or was TruthLiving banned - it looks like his comments were there but erased…
Anyways, I know you all are enjoying popcorn, but I have some delicious Artisan tortilla chips with garlic and black bean if you’d like some. 😉

You know, I kind of hate to waste this on a thread so deep, but …

Do all you ex-Mos remember those old school Book of Remembrances with the covers that looked like this?

After hearing all the talk about how the LDS church “never” preached about the Catholic church being, you know, bad, I had to go and scan a copy of one of the pages of my book. This book was sold in church bookstores all over the country when I was young. It had all kinds of nifty graphics, like the Plan of Salvation:

And this nifty one about the Papal crown. Now, in their defense, this was not “official” canonical doctrine in the scriptures and even the caption says “An Adventist” came up with it. But it was sold at Church bookstores with the permission of the LDS church, with licensed images and intellectual property. They knew about it. And they let it be published anyway.

So tell me again how the LDS church never preached how the Catholic church was the “Great and Abominable” church?
Even if was never officially taught as official doctrine, it certainly was held by it’s membership. ANd it was allowed to be held.

Sorta like the whole pious myth that when a man is called to be one of the 12, what makes him a so-called “special witness” is that he ends up meeting the resurrected Lord face to face and he has a “more sure and perfect knowledge”.

That pious myth, rumor is also (or at least was) allowed to be held without any of the GA’s correcting it’s lay membership.

That is one of the deceits of Mormonism. Or at least was. Perhaps they have corrected that.

I had a book of remember, but not quite like that.

It seem that way when I tried to quote and reply and got a ghostly white page:)
One thing was made quite clear. Their understanding of Mormonism was elementary at best, so their beginning premise that Mormonism and it’s teachings is misunderstood here was factually inaccurate. 🙂

Those of us here who are former Mormons are indeed credible witnesses to it’s teachings and it’s culture.

Not WAS held, IS held. There are plenty of members of the LDS church that STILL hew to this belief. In June I’ll be a member for 18 years. When I was baptized there was a member living temporarily in my ward who was REALLY into apologetics. He turned me on to a lot of those beliefs. In fact I’m sure it was him that told me about that statement about the Catholic church being in the first edition of Mormon Doctrine but being removed in later editions
