Hello. I am so sorry to hear all of this. I’m sorry to be so forward, I’m new to this board and am in bad need of guidance and help.

Right now I live in Utah. Does anybody that has responded to this board that is catholic and married to a mormon live in Utah? We live north of Salt Lake City and I’m “starving” to find other moms and families that live close to me that I can bond with. My husband is buddhist (not practicing since he was probably 11) and our children are raised catholic.

Living in utah has been a very hard transition for me and I struggle daily with the LDS cliques and their mindset. I try very hard to be nice and neighborly but it is hard.

I will pray for you and for you family. If anybody lives in SLC, please pm me, as I would love to find new ideas on how to break through their walls of cliques and just be friends no matter what the religion.

Take care and again my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to give a brief little update. I spoke with our priest today. I asked him about the process of having our marriage convalidated. We have set up the appointment to discuss it. The only problem is I haven’t told my husband that I am planning on this. We talked about it a long time ago and he wasn’t against it, but he wasn’t excited about it. So I let it drop. Well now I really feel like this is something I need to do.

When we got married I was very young. The priest in my home town wouldn’t marry us, because I was so young. At the time he said that I could still recieve communion…that it was my choice. I was told that what ever I felt comfortable with I should do. Well I didn’t understand at the time why he was even bring up the Eucharist. It was only after I began to study my faith more fully (within the last couple of months) that I realised the priest gave my non-traditional advice. I have been living in a state of Mortal sin for 15 years and didn’t know it!!! I feel sick about it.

I plan to recieve a blessing instead of the Eucharist at Church this weekend and hopefully when I meet with the priest he will tell me what I can and can’t do.

Does anyone have any insight?
Thanks

About being in Mortal sin:
If you didn’t know then you’re not guilty. (Full knowledge of the sinfulness of the act, and full consent of the will, are necessary for it to be mortal.)

Now that you know, of course you must do what you can to set things right.
Please, make sure that you keep your husband informed of any action you plan to take. Do not give him any reason to think you’re keeping secrets from him.
And don’t give his family any excuse to accuse you to him, of deception or secret-keeping.

May Our Lord bless you and keep you. :signofcross:
I’ll go on praying for you.
