None is greater, bigger or almighter than Another.
… except when One is greater that the Other.

John 14:28 (KJV) Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

I want this post to be very specifically on this subject, so did not post this on the “anything goes” thread.

Mormons believe a great apostasy occurred following the death of the Apostles and lead to over a thousand years of the world be devoid of the full truth until Joseph Smith came about and thus the Book of Mormon was born.
That’s mostly correct. But the Book of Mormon doesn’t present itself or Joseph Smith as having restored “the full truth.” Just more pieces of it.

For now we see through the glass, darkly, but then face to face. Now we know in part, but then we shall know as we are known.

Muslims say that Mohammed came and corrected everything, and that they have the whole truth.

Mormons admit that they still are missing stuff, and that (D&C 1) “there are still abominations in the church that professes my name,” i.e. the LDS church. However, Mormons claim to have the priesthood and the power of revelation, and that through that revelation they can continue to learn line upon line, precept upon precept, until that perfect day.

To some degree, Muslims believe the same. After the death of Jesus (not a crucifixion according to their beliefs), the believers of Jesus hijacked his gospel and founded the Christian religion. This was not the truth and required a correct message for Gabriel to once again appear to Muhammad and thus the Koran was born.

Now…

both make similar claims about Christianity (lacking the full/ true/ complete message). Why would I choose Mormonism over Islam, or vice versa assuming I were to not be a Catholic any longer.

This is in the interest of dialogue btw. Not looking to transfer faiths.
Speaking as a LDS member, why is Apostasy so difficult for some Catholics? The Apostasy has a great foundation in light of the protestant churches that exist now and how they started.
