Apostles could not calm storms or walk on water. Jesus is God.

99.9%of the world hasn’t a clue of who Joseph Smith was, St.Paul has got him beat by a Million miles.

They are taught that it is nothing but a murder weapon, why would you want to focus on the cross? It would be like putting your child who was in a wreck in a car on your wall. This is where they are coming from, this is a learned perception. We all have those…

I am not LDS although I did attend up until about 12 years old. Was baptized Catholic 11 years ago in Uath. One of the questions I get from Mormons during our tours of our church. Keep in mind we really help them to be comfortable, that its ok to ask anything and we mean it. They commonly ask: It seems that Catholics focus more on the death of Christ than on His resurrection is that true? What we tell them is that we focus on His whole life equally, from the prophesies regarding Him, His birth, His teachings, His Passion, His death on the Cross, to Easter…His Glorious resurrection. “I say No, we try to focus on it all”

For a Mormon, they are taught to focus on the Resurrection not on the Crucifixion. More on the good parts of humankind than the bad such as our sin. Of course we all want everything in our lives to be safe and good, we all want happiness. Its hard to focus on the Passion of Christ, on sin, on death and so forth. But for us Catholics its in going down that we arrive at the top. I will let the LDS take it from here.

Ok thanks, that makes a lot more sense. I really have trouble seeing eye to eye with certain things like this:rolleyes:

About the crucifix being a demonination sign… I don’t wear the crucifix so often as I wear medals:p It can be taken as a sign but that’s not how most people see it… probably more as some little kind of devotion.
 
I had posted something the Lord had said, but I have decided I really don’t want to get into the back and forth chat right now between faith traditions.

The various Jews leaders during the life time our our Lord did that enough as they argued over points of scripture.

But he couldn’t have been raised from the dead without suffering and dying on the cross first, in other words, “no pain no gain”. It’s a reminder to us all of how we came to have the glory and grace we now possess.

I think they are all fine representations of what he did for us. There are plenty of examples of people dying for others. There is no greater love that that. Jesus showed us that love by dying for us as an innocent lamb. But 2000 years later, people are interested in his resurrection because that shows divinity. No resurrection and Jesus is nothing but a prophet. The open grave shows it all. Us quibbling over the cross or the open grave is somewhat pointless because no church has an open grave as a symbol.

I think the argument is equal to “what’s the best part of a banana split.” Its all good, but you are going to always have your favorite part and I’ll have mine and no matter what we’ll still be enjoying our Sundae together.

OOO…careful. I never deminished the the importance of the innocent Jesus being put to death. I never said, its just anyone. I said, Lots of innocent people died on the cross. Without the resurrection of Christ, Jesus would have been another. I mean, Muslims are happy to acknowledge his death. They are not happy to say he rose again, That shows divinity in everyone’s eyes.

With all due respect II could not compare any of this to a Bannanna Split. My favorite part of my faith is all of it together as one . My favorite part is Christmas, my favorite part is Easter, all of it mixed together. At each Mass we celebrate His Birth, His teachings, His Passion, His resurection. Its all one. It all leads up to His Resurection. Each year we make a full circle, this circle is Christ. By getting into the trenches with Christ the Easter celebration for me gets sweeter and sweeter with each passing year. I know He is in the trenches with me at all times, through the good and the bad, the suffering and the joy. Its like going through the dark days of winter to get to Spring. Going through His Passion to appreciate His resurection. It all happened once but the Mass connects us to it live. We as Catholics have great opportunities to delve deep into all of it. We should learn to take the Suffering as well as the joy. In Christianity you can not pick between the two. They go hand in hand. Don’t see this as quibbling, more like sharing.
