The English Mass is from the original Vatican translation and portions of it have been incorrect for the past 40+ years. As I said, we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
Based on a series on Relevant Radio that I have been listening to intermittently, calling the current translation “wrong” is going too far. The “problem” is the method of translation used. For the current translation, the dynamic equivalency method was used. It is my understanding that this method attempts to render the original meaning using modern day language. For the new translation, which is anticipated for release sometime in 2011, a more literal interpretation method was used. In some of the side by side comparison that I heard, the newer translation is richer in adjectives and more reverent, but new translation does not indicate that the present translation is in error. It is just different.

I didn’t say that it was wrong. I said that it was incorrect – which is a true statement. If it were correct, there would be no reason to “correct” it.

Change wrong to incorrect and my statement stands.

It’s being CORRECTED for a reason. If it wasn’t “wrong”, it wouldn’t need to be CORRECTED.
