Things didn’t man who I was seeing. We agreed to still be friends. Today he was typing impure things today but I was rejecting his offers and telling him I wanted no part in it. Was there a sin committed on my part. I go to frequent mass and not sure if I’ve destroyed the state of my soul by giving ear to such a conversation

Why would you think you had done anything sinful by rejecting his offers?

Because I’m scrupulous and the fact I even responded to the messages at all

My priest is fond of telling me that mortal sin occurs within the context of your relationship with God.

It doesn’t sound like you did anything with the intent of severing that relationship. But head to confession all the same. Talk to your priest about your scrupulosity.

As one priest who used to frequent these forums was fond of saying, God is your loving Father, not a bean counter.

I would be serene on the matter you present, but actually I would look for a good spiritual director who, in addition to teaching you how to manage scruples, can help you develop your potential before God.
We pray!

I smell the Fundamental Option.

You don’t need “an intent to sever your relationship with God”, all you need is the knowledge that you will do so, and the intent to commit the offense.
What is new is the use of this idea to explain mortal sin. In 1975 the Holy See issued a formal declaration, Persona Humana, in which certain theories involving the fundamental option were condemned. “There are those,” the document stated, “who go so far as to affirm that mortal sin, which causes separation from God, only exists in the formal refusal directly opposed to God’s call, or in that selfishness which completely and deliberately closes itself to the love of neighbor. They say that it is only then, that there comes into play the ‘fundamental option’, that is to say, the decision which totally commits the person and which is necessary if mortal sin is to exist.”
