I think you are confusing this forum, CAF, with CL or AOL. Why are you here? Bored?
I think you will be banned by tomorrow
I don’t know if I can start each sentence with “I think”, but I can certainly express myself in ways that you demonstrably struggle to. If you’d like to contribute to the discussion, by all means attempt. I posit that the writer needs to rememeber his sin is a sin in order to not do it again (that is the sin that he doesn’t want to tell us about). Others claim that he needs to forget the sin, and remember what to do instead of the sin.

I still maintain that he could do his sin as well as the solution, and therefore needs to recall his wrongdoing in order to nolonger wrongdo.

NE Catholic. I challenge you, quite publicly - consider it a gauntlet if it gears you readily - to offer a considered response; instead of calling for the removal of someone who challenges the breaded thought you are so reluctant to break in to.

This forum can lose a whiner to an inquisitor, quite easily. So should you fail to respond adequately, be warned, I will be calling for your removal.

May God be with you

if your action was unbeknown to yourself then by definition it was not sinful for you. A sin has to be deliberate and committed with full knowledge for the person to be culpable. How should you act? When you sin knowingly in a grave matter get to confession as soon as possible, and never deny yourself the immense grace and healing of the sacrament.
Your “expectations” aside my dear oisles, you failed to properly read and undersand Puzzleannie’s post, the very first word of which is “IF”.
IF the action is “unbeknownest” then it is not sinful…

The Problem for the OP is that: a) he has trouble coming to grips with the grave nature of the sin, and b) has trouble overcoming the sin.
In both cases the solution for preserving ones soul is the same. Confession with a good priest who can give sound advice and absolution. Confession with it’s attendant, “immense grace and healing of the sacrament”.

Now - no one would deny that it requires much desire and effort on the part of the sinner to overcome a habitual sin (vice). That is not the point. The point is that Annie offered sound Catholic advice to the OP and ANY Catholic in a similar situation.
Her post was not deserving of your snippy response.

And to paraphrase you closing remark, I expect more from a junior. More respect, more care and more desire to grow in grace by listening to and taking to heart the advice of “elders” such as Puzzleannie.

Peace
James

With all due respect, that’s about as chalky as defences come. Her use of the word “if” doesn’t exonerate her in the slightest: it merely goes to show that she missed the nuance entirely. No one is arguing that he shouldn’t go to confession. I think everyone here stipulates to that. However, the more worrying characteristic of our writer is that of his stubborn recrudescence into MORTAL SIN (dun dun DUN!).

Now, Annie did offer sound Catholic advice: “Go to confession”. Does it come any sounder than that? Works in any situation, no? So, now that that’s out of the way, shall we address the root of the problem?.. his spirit-condemning proclivity for excuse making and repeat offending. If we can’t question the merit of the old “go to confession” line, then what is there even a forum here for? It might as well be an autoresponding mailing list that just emails you back with “Go to confession” every time you post. I think we can do better.

Obviously, if I upset elderly annie, let me express my unreserved contrition right now. That was not my intention. But I do esteem it my duty, even as a junior, to involve myself fully and truthfully in these discussions. Annie’s advice was of limited use, if it was of any at all. But she sounds nice. I hope we can still be friends.

On a personal note, I hope they are grey squirrels.

May love and fondness abound in our lives etc

IF your response to Annie had been more specific in nature and showed that you actually did read and understand her response then there would have been no problem, but that it not what you did. Your response was a broadside declaring, not only that she missed something in the OP but in, “the very helpful comments posted since”. I assure you she did not.
The BEST advice given in this thread is the very same advice that I would (and do) give anyone posting similar threads. Get to confession and discuss these matters with a good, regular confessor.

You are correct. “Go to confession” is the soundest advice. So what is your problem that this advice is repeatedly given. We don’t know this person any more than I know you. All we have to go on are a few wll chosen lines posted on a public forum. A regular confessor will be able to develop a relationship, an understanding and a history with this person that will do far more to help than anything we could say.
As for your desire to dig deeper into the “root cause”, well the OP has chosen NOT to do that on a public forum. This fact seemed to bother you so you brought up “trust issues” and then posted a crass, silly and unhelpful scenerio so that you’d have something to play with.
If we can’t question the merit of the old “go to confession” line, then what is there even a forum here for? It might as well be an autoresponding mailing list that just emails you back with “Go to confession” every time you post. I think we can do better.
If the OP chooses to share then certainly you would be free to pursue it. The OP has not made that choice. So if you’d like to “do better”, then respect the OP’s decision not to share and let it go at that.

Certainly you are welcome here and I hope you WILL involve yourself fully. But remember that respect is a key whether you are talking to a person like Annie with over 20,000 posts or Annie is talking to you with less than 20.
As for upsetting Annie, I doubt it. But you did upset me by your attack on someone who is wise and highly respected my many on this board.
On a personal note, I hope they are grey squirrels.
On a personal note, I wish you’d drop this whole squirrel thing. I don’t think anyone has found it either humorous or helpful.
May love and fondness abound in our lives etc
And may God continue to Guide you on your journey.
