Mortal Sin Question?

As some may know, I have revealed that I suffer from SSA to many on here. My question is, when I go out, My eyes tend to wonder. I will see a guy, and i can’t help but think, “he looks good”, but then i quickly realize what im doing. Also, I am on this online thing called Myspace.com. I joined to meet kids my age and catholic, and i have. But then again, some people put pics of themselves without their shirts on. I try to avoid it, but everyone in a while stumble across it. So my question is, am I in a state of mortal sin?
 
If you don’t purposefully dwell on these thoughts and images I would think you are not in mortal sin. We all have impure thoughts pop in once in a while. The key is recognizing they are not good and getting them out. If you purposefully dwell on these thoughts, especially for purpose of arousal, then you would be in mortal sin. I hope that helps.

Stay away from that website! If you hand causes you to sin cut it off, better to live without a hand than to be thrown into the fires of Gehenna!

For a mortal sin to have taken place it must be:
  1. a grave matter
  2. full consent
  3. knowledge act is sin before it is done

Grave matter is typically defined by the 10 Commandments. There’s also a “list” of mortal sins in Scripture (St Paul).

But I agree with Esclavo. Stay away from sites like Myspace. They’ll only lead you to sin and worsen your problem! You must take extreme measures to avoid occasions of sin! You should install filtering software, in case you can’t overcome a particularly strong temptation. I suggest using Covenant Eyes. I’m going to sign up for it myself. It keeps you accountable when on the Internet, so you don’t fall into sin.

Have you heard of Courage? I strongly suggest you check it out! It’s a Catholic group (very faithful to Rome) that will help you live a chaste life and overcome these struggles and temptations.

Ryan, we all support you here. We want to see you overcome this and live a chaste life, as we’re all called to. Please, take our advice and stay as far away as you can from anything that could possibly fuel your temptations. No more Myspace!

I am on Myspace as well, but my friends are people I actually know, so I don’t really have a problem with things like what you mentioned.
