Lets say that I watched porn and masturbated (take in account that I know the 3 criteria of mortal sin) but I wasn’t thinking at the time so was it a mortal sin or not

Go to confession. When in doubt, always just go to confession.

Sins of this type is what is called
stolen morsels(Prov. 9:13-18)
It is a FALSE WAY of satisfying
your sexual urges. Fear the Lord
and don’t go to porn to satisfy your
lusts, He wants something BETTER
for you!! Fear His Commandments
and LIVE!!

I think it depends on what you mean by “wasn’t thinking at the time.” On the one hand, the only thing I can imagine that could make you not think while watching porn and masturbating would be if it was a habitual act. And it is my understanding that habit reduces consent. On the other hand, at least Part of your conscious brain was working or you would have no knowledge of the event.

I can give you those thoughts, but I cannot conclude if you met the condition of full consent or not. You ought to discuss this in Confession. Confess, and bring up the “not thinking” thing as a relevant circumstance that could lessen your culpability.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us: but if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 St. John 1.8-9
:bible1:

That speaks for itself.

I would argue, that because God.told Moses.that He will write His law on our hearts, that because of our God given consciences, it is extremely difficult to sin and get through every single loophole of mortal sin, not knowing it.was a sin, being forced to do.a sin, sinning by accident.

If you know already beforehand as a catholic that porn and masturbation are mortal sins, then you have full knowledge. It’s not like you forgot it was a mortal sin. And no one forced you to commit the sin, so deliberate is another category. Did you deliberately turn on a Pornographic film, because that is deliberate then. And grave matter is already a category, for both those offences.

Just that as a catholic who already knows the truth on those two acts, I think you should confess it as mortal sin.

Trust in God’s Mercy, confess it.and.be.free of those chains! God is waiting for you in the confessional, to heal you!

Let’s say that I was walking along. Absent-mindedly. And picked up a rock. Then without thinking I threw it away. And it broke someone’s window.

Do I go and apologize for that? Or do I just shrug and see if I can do enough mental gymnastics to get out of having to own up to it?

If thy eye offends thee…pluck it out…draw your own conclusions…

As someone who has been there I would say it’s sin. Go to confession, it can only help.

Don’t be afraid of being pious. Contrary to what many in the world think it is NOT a bad thing to be.

We can’t decide for you whether it was a mortal sin. All we can do is reiterate that it is grave matter and that whether you actually committed a mortal sin or venial sin, it is wise to seek God’s forgiveness after committing a sin of grave matter. That is the only advice I have - I did not vote in the poll.
