So I was watching TV today when a commercial for Fifty shades of Gray came on. I immediately looked away and went to change the channel, but even as I did so I found myself actively listening to the sentence or two I heard before I managed to hit the button. Normally I’d just write it off and say I’m being silly, but I’m worried just because, well, it WAS fifty shades, even though the commercial itself (or at least the part I heard) wasn’t explicit. Am I no longer in a state of grace?
Frankly I think it’s ridiculous that commercials for this movie are even on daytime TV. What if a little kid were watching? Makes me sick.

Don’t be scrupulous.
Random things that happen in front of your face didn’t cause you to sin.

There are only two options to avoid something that leads to sin on TV: don’t watch at all or turn it off as soon as detected.

Here are some questions you can answer for yourself to help you to decide on matters:
  • did I intentionally dwell on unchaste thoughts rather than divert from them once recognized?
  • did I intentionally, or though negligence, approach an avoidable near occasion of sin?
  • did I intentionally, or though negligence, give a bad example (that would be sinful for them) to others by my behavior?
