Today I really want ice cream but I suppose I could just not have it, or have something I want less.
The calories from good ice cream may be important for you. What I’d do in that situation is to have plain vanilla ice cream (because I do not like plain vanilla ice cream). There is a flavor that is not your favorite?

Rebecca, if you get distracted during the Rosary, you could say it along with a YouTube video. Sometimes saying it along with a video or a group helps cut down on distractions. These are my favorites:

Glorious, Joyful, Sorrowful, Luminous.

You can also say it along with others on EWTN or Relevant Radio. RR has a great app with a lot of prayers on it.

If you like Mother Angelica, she also has rosaries on Youtube. I think she was already pretty ill by the time she recorded this after her stroke. Since you are also suffering, you may really enjoy her two biographies.

🙏❤️

Oh, good, you’re getting it 🙂

A couple of hints: one is to plan your mortifications ahead of time–you can do extras, but planning is good because then you’re not erratic or obsessive about it.

Another is to switch up the mortifications. After a while, what you are doing becomes habitual, and then you need to switch.or expand on what you are doing. Having a regular time to do that is good too, like once a year, or once every three months.

The ancient holy fathers said - “To whom God gave a heavy cross, to that person God wants to reward the light crown”, so rejoice in the Lord, look for the opportunity to even encourage and strengthen in the faith your neighbor. I dont think you should seek extra-sacrifice, bear your cross and thank God for everything , and in eternity we shall get answers to many questions that could not be answered on earth.
