Hi,
A Muslim colleague of mine has asked me a question; He has a friend who came in to this country from Iraq and he has married a British citizen in a UK Mosque and they have a child together.
He wants to stay in this country and has been told by other Iraq Muslims that he must marry in a church so that the marriage will be legal in the UK, others are telling him to get married in a registry office.
Now I would have thought the marriage in the Mosque would be a legal marriage in UK law.
I have told them to contact Citizens Advice Bureau and the Iraq embassy for advice, as there is not a lot I can tell them.
Any advice.
Thank you.
