Hey guys, I am a seminarians, and my mother is receiving the sacrament of confirmation at Easter. I have pretty limited money since I can’t have a job…but want to get my mother a special confirmation gift a little early…for Xmas. Please throw me some ideas!

Catechism of the Catholic Church
Rosary
Bible
Religious jewelry…cross, crucifix, Blessed Virgin Mary
Religious picture
Religious statue…Blessed Virgin Mary, Sacred Heart
Crucifix…for the wall (My mother had one in each room!)
Religious video …on one of the saints
Book…lives of the saints
Holy water wall holder
Holy water container…some are very nice with designs, etc.

How about a “Spiritual Bouquet” made by you? You can get it started and make it as fancy or simple as you want. It can have the “Item” (e.g., Mass, Communion, Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Fast, Days of Fast, etc.) to the left of the page (one “Item” per line) and starting with the first one at about 1.5" from the top margin. Then on that 1.5", and perpendicular, you can put the date/s vertically. Bring those lines down forming squares where the date column and the “Item” row meet. All you have to do is place a check-mark on that square when you “do” the prayer, etc. It will not cost much money-wise, but it is a priceless gift with eternal ramifications.

Congratulations to your Mom on both her up-coming Confirmation and, with God’s Grace, her son’s Ordination.
I am happy for you

Why not make her something! I assume she knows you’re a seminarian, and knows that you can’t afford too much. I’m not sure what materials you have available, or what you can get, but you could always make her a bracelet that has her name, confirmation saint’s name, and her confirmation date. For example “Mom (or her name) x amount of beads St. Lucy x amount of beads April bead 20 bead 2014 *x amount of beads.” Most plastic beads and elastic don’t cost very much, and are very simple to make, and it would be something she’ll always have that has a special meaning to it. And, if it snaps or breaks, it’s a very simple fix. If you’d like more ideas, you are more than welcome to let me know! And good luck on your journey to the Priesthood! 🙂

I knew someone who made a rosary out of these…seed-type things, and the mother shows it to people all the time and has been for years!

I don’t have anything to add, as the suggestions above are great, but just wanted to say I’m so thrilled for you and your mother! 🙂

You can find a nice Rosary blessed by Pope Francis on eBay for around 12.00.
Maybe that and some flowers? Congrats to your mother BTW

So many great ideas!!! THANK YOU ALL!!! and may God always Bless and keep you!!!

Perhaps you could consider writing a letter expressing your love for her, your feelings about her reception of the sacrament, and your hopes for her future. I think she would treasure something like that.

I’m a guy, so I suck at giving gift ideas, but I just wanted to congratulate your mom on her upcoming Confirmation!
