Mother of God

We don’t need proof from scripture.

Jesus is God and Mary is his mother, therfor Mary is the Mother of God.

I guess so.

But it is so much fun to give that line to Evangelicals and non-denominaltionalists here where I live. They bat their eyelashes and you can almost smell the smoke coming from their ears as the wheels turn inside their head.

I had one man say, “That’s it!?” I said, “Yup, that’s it.”

He was like, “I thought it was some big thing you guys made up that Mary was the mother of… you know… God!”

I’m like, “Yea, we have an army of albino monks in the basement of the vatican who make this stuff up.” 😃

elegant and true. It is hard to understand the gymnastics some go through to suggest Mary is not the mother of God, while still professing that Jesus is God and Man (one person with two natures) and thus was God at birth. so by definition, Mary is the “mother of God”.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. …] And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Seems clear to me. 🤷

Can’t be done…

Once you have expressed the truth, and shown the evidence and logic of it…you can do no more…these other denominations must “convince” themselves…Or perhaps we could say that they must soften their hearts so that the truth may enter.

The denial of Mary being the Mother of God, is tied directly to the Semi-Arian and Nestorian nature of many if not most Evangelicals. They have a definite problem with the Hypostatic Union of the Incarnation. They tend to believe that GOD up in heaven worked all the miracles for Jesus on earth because of his special status as the Redeemer.

That is really why I think that John 1:1 is merely being paid lip service today: it’s one of those passages which everyone knows is there, but is never given any real attention. I guess we really need that Eastern way of referring to Jesus as “Christ our God” badly now. :hmmm:
