Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In the first of the Vatican-aproved apparitions of Mary to three visionaries in Kibeho, Africa, on Nov. 28, 1981, 16 year old Alphonsine asked, “Who are you?” Mary answered, “I am the Mother of the Word”.

If you have never read the book, Our Lady of Kibeho: Mary Speaks to the World from the Heart of Africa by Immaculee Ilibagiza, I urge you to do so – see HERE .

I began re-reading this little book during Advent, but did not get to complete it until making a 4 day retreat this Dec. 22 - through Dec. 26. When I completed it, I was so grateful to have heard far more than I did the first time I read it. It is continuing to echo in my heart these days within the octave of Christmas as we celebrate “The Word Made Flesh”.

Mary, Mother of the Word, came to warn the people of Africa and too many ignored her and the Word of God she brought. She spoke to the world, but many still refuse to listen.

On Aug. 15, 1982, Alphonsine heard Mary say: “I am too sad to hear my children sing”. When asked why, the Virgin’s face became etched with pain and her eyes filled with tears of grief. I will not quote this entire section of the book – it is far better to read and ponder it yourself but during this apparition, Alphonsine was heard to say: "Yes, Mother, I’m telling them you say that you saw the world in a bad state and you came to save us, but we’ve refused to listen. You want me to ask them, 3 times: “What are you waiting for?” and repeat seven times: “So we can help Jesus to save the world.”

It was during this apparition on Aug. 15, 1982, that Alphonsine saw a river of blood, as did the other visionaries, who also saw scenes of the impending Rwandan genocide which was to occur in 1994. I believe the Mother of God comes to all of us through these and other apparitions, to help us come closer to her Immaculate Heart filled with God’s Love for us. As she brought forth the Word of God made Flesh at His First Coming, so she precedes Him in His Second Coming. Sin brings consequences and the world continues to suffer for its own sins and the sins of those who refuse to love. We need to repent and believe in God’s Son, the Word made Flesh, sent by the Father to save us.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, Mother of the Word, help us to hear and receive Jesus the Word through you. Pray for us now and at the hour of or death. Amen.

Dear All,

The messages of Mary at Kibeho continue to echo in my heart. I wanted to add to this thread, since no one has yet responded. After Alphonsine heard Mary say, “I am too sad to hear my children sing”, Mary asked Alphonsine to sing this:
“People are not grateful
They don’t love me,
I came from heaven for nothing
I left all the good things there for nothing.
My heart is full of sadness
My child, show me the love, You love me,
Come closer to my heart.”
Jesus could be saying the very same words – people have been ungrateful to God since the first sin of Adam and Eve. Jesus came to save us but are people grateful?

Mary’s words also reminded me of the vision of Sister Lucia of Fatima when Mary appeared with the Child Jesus who told Lucia to have pity on our Mother. Today, Saturday, is Mary’s day, let us offer reparation to the Immaculate Heart who like her Son is wounded by our sins. Let us “keep her company”, praying her Rosary and pondering the mysteries of her life with Jesus. By God’s Grace, may we come closer to her heart.
