“It is easy to think of the poverty far away and forget very quickly. Today a great disease is that feeling of terrible loneliness, the feeling of being unwanted, having forgotten what human joy is, what the human feeling is of being wanted or loved…We may not have people hungry for a plate of rice or for a piece of bread in New York City, but there is a tremendous hunger and a tremendous feeling of unwantedness everywhere. And that is really a very great poverty.”

I had seen a survey (not sure if it was on our local news or a web news feed or right here on this forum) that said 1 in 5 men don’t have a good friend, someone they could confide in. I actually cringe when I hear someone tell another person (who is commenting about how many problems they have) to be quiet and count your blessings. There might be a time and place for that response but most of the time, the person complaining just wants someone to listen to them and help them. There are a lot of hurting people out in the world. People who have made serious mistakes in their lives and have gotten themselves into financial, emotional, spiritual and/or physical problems. I’m sure that beautiful Mother Teresa met so many who were hurting; she is an inspiration to me.
