**While we have read so much about Mother Teresa recently, I thought it might be time to share quotes that she left us that strike a personal cord. The one below unfortunately did not have a reference, which would be helpful if we wanted to read the quote in the context in which it was written or spoken. So, as you post your quote(s), please provide its source.

“There is a famine in America. Not a famine of food, but of love, of truth, of life.”

Mother Teresa****

I am reading the book that just came out – “Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light” – and am delighted with it. I did not know that she had such a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She told her sisters to “keep looking at the Sacred Heart.”

Writing to her archbishop about her interior darkness:
  • Code:
When it is very hard for you -- just hide yourself in the Sacred Heart, and there my heart with you will find all the strength and love. You want to suffer in pure love -- rather say in the love that He chooses for you. -- You have to be a "spotless host."*
In another letter she wrote:
  • Code:
Please pray for me, that it may please God to lift this darkness from my soul for only a few days. For sometimes the agony of desolation is so great and at the same time the longing for the Absent One so deep, that the only prayer which I can still say is --"Sacred Heart of Jesus I trust in Thee -- I will satiate Thy thirst for souls."*
In a letter to a priest:
. …In you today – He wants to relive His complete submission to His Father – allow Him to do so. Does not matter what you feel – as long as He feels alright in you. Take away your eyes from your self and rejoice that you have nothing – that you are nothing – that you can do nothing. Give Jesus a big smile – each time your nothingness frightens you.
This is the poverty of Jesus. You and I must let Him live in us and through us in the world…

In another letter:
  • ..."In union with all the Masses being offered throughout the world I offer Thee my heart. Make it meek and humble like yours." Pray this prayer for me sometimes -- for I ask for this only -- that my heart be like His meek and humble...*
