I ask for your prayers for a friend of my mother’s who recently lost her baby. When she found out she was pregnant, she didn’t want the baby and both Mom and I prayed that she would have a change of heart. My Mom persuaded her not to get an abortion and was looking forward to helping her out.
When I talked to my mom last week she told me her friend’s due date was very soon. My mom called today and said that her friend had the baby but the baby died. I’m not sure what was wrong…something about the heart not being fully formed, and the adrenal gland. I didn’t get a chance to talk long because Mom and sister were headed off to Mass.
Anyway, prayers needed for my mother’s friend and for the soul of the little one.
I will pray for them both–little one and mother. My sister and I both lost babies late into our pregnancies–it is excruciating. It may be that your mother’s friend will have a hard time not blaming herself, because she was ambivalent about the pregnancy. Her grief could be exacerbated by the suspicion that she somehow contributed to the baby’s death. I will pray the rosary for her at adoration.
Thank you so much for your prayers - udoc and anyone else who might have read and prayed but not replied.
I just got off the phone with Mom. She was at the hospital with her friend (we’ll call her Jen) and friend’s husband for most of the past two days. They called her when Jen was in labor and Mom was there for the delivery. The baby seemed fine and healthy but only gave a small cry and stopped breathing. They tried to resuscitate for 40 minutes but had to give up. They don’t know what went wrong…the parents didn’t want an autopsy. The parents were able to have a few hours to hold the baby and say goodbye. The dad was so distraught that he almost wouldn’t let the nurses take the baby away.
Jen has another child, a little boy about 7 years old. He kept asking about the baby. They planned to tell him today when his mom gets back from the hospital. He was so excited about having a little sister. He hugged his mom’s belly and loved to feel the baby kick. He even wanted to sleep in the same room with little sister when she came back from the hospital. I cried so hard when my mom told me that…heart-wrenching.
Please, please pray for this whole family. They are from another country and don’t have much of a support system here. My mom is doing what she can to help but it is still so hard. I can’t imagine the pain they are going through…all their joy turned to horrible grief in an instant.
