Movement of tabernacle

The parish where I teach will be moving the tabernacle and the altar for a school presentation in the church this week. I am not sure where Jesus will be put(in a closet, at the back, somewhere???).

Is there anything wrong with this? I have never heard of just moving the tabernacle for a special presentation? Is this normal at other schools/parishes?

I guess I have never thought about or considered this before as I had never heard of this. As I lament other abuses in this particular church( and report and pray about them), is this something that I should get worked up about?

Are there any official documents regarding this?? Canon Law? I apologize for any ignorance here as I am just not sure, but I do know that it bothers me as the gym or cafeteria could have been easily utilized.

In our church, they remove the reserved Eucharist from the tabernacle at wedding rehearsals. Pastor says they can become a “zoo”. I don’t know where they take it, but then I trust our priests, which is why I go there.

It is good that at least they are moving them and not just covering them up. As long as the place where they take the tabernacle is safe and secure and appropriate, I would not worry about it. Usually the Blessed Sacrament is moved to the rectory which may itself have a small tabernacle already.

the tabernacle must be moved if the Church is to be used for a secular purpose such as a concert. It should be placed in the sacristy or some other safe, secure place. this is exactly why it is a good idea to have a separate reposition and adoration chapel in a Church that has a lot of public access and traffic or will often be used for such purposes. Our former church was the largest gathering place in our small town so was often used for graduations, interfaith concerts, baccalaureate services, ecumenical services, candidate info nights and the like. So we built a separate Eucharistic chapel with an outside entrance.

This had the added benefit of restoring adoration as a parish practice, since formerly the church was closed and locked most of the time. With the chapel, which is in full view of the Church offices and rectory, we could have extended hours and as a result it has become a regional center for adoration, with daily exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. That would not have been possible had the tabernacle remained in the main church.
