A new movie is coming out tomorrow called Birth. In it a woman is convinced a 10 year old boy is her reincarnated husband. It includes a bath scene with the two of them and a kiss. Nicole Kidman is the actress.

Now, after all the attacks on the priesthood…here we have them making a movie sympathetic towards pedophilia. We are bashed for a behavior that they don’t really think is wrong. And ironically we do teach it is sinful. Are they saying that pedophilia is only wrong when it involves priests? These people are sick and hypocritical. If they want to bash Catholicism for the scandals they now have no authority to do so. They are worse then the abusers since they actually defend pedophilia. Don’t be fooled. The scandals were not considered evil by the media elites because it involved pedophilia. It was just an excuse to bash the Church. They could care less about the kids.

Certainly seems so…don’t think they would ever admit it…

That is sick. How can Kidman live with herself

I think I remember hearing about this movie when it was being filmed. They had to film it (or at least parts) overseas so that they didn’t run into legal problems with the bath scene and the kissing. I don’t know what is scarier–the movie itself, or the fact that there is a country that will let you get away with doing that. Ick.

Revolting. Such a scene, even in the context of the storyline, does nothing but titillate and pander.

The odd thing is, Kidman has finally left that crazy Scientology cult and is supposedly on her way back to the Catholicism of her roots.

if it is distributed in this country it is child porn and I hope somebody prosecutes

This is not at all surprising. Why just last year, the Academy Awards “Best Director” prize went to noted fugitive pedophile, Roman Polanski for the movie, “The Pianist”. He has been living in Europe for many years because if were to return to the US, he would be arrested.

A Los Angeles County Grand Jury indicted him for using champagne and drugs to seduce a 13 year old girl in 1977.

Can you imagine how many young girls he has violated since he fled?

Not to be too controversial here, since the little bit I’ve read about the movie certainly makes it seem extremely distasteful, but what is there out there that says this movie is “sympathetic toward pedophilia”? Might the message of the movie, if it even has one, be the exact opposite?

Consider, for example, Nabokov’s Lolita. That book was widely reviled and banned for its subject matter, but the novel does not portray the sexual exploitation of Lolita in a positive light. The exact opposite is true. The books shows how such a violation destroys innocence and distorts the character and conscience of those involved.

We are certainly without our rights to judge the merits of entertainment. Is it purient? Is it morally reprehensible? Et cetera. But we ought to be cautious about judging too quickly or based on too little information.

Here’s Kidman’s response on her character’s motivation in this film:
Ms Kidman has now hit out at suggestions that the film displays pedophile overtones, stating there are no amorous or sexual feelings towards the child by her character further stating that it would be disgusting and horrible.
Ms Kidman pointed out that she has a child of Cameron Bright’s age and anything like that she would find revolting.
The relationship between the character, Anna, and the boy is not about attraction but about belief in the manifestation of Anna’s dead spouse, she said.
Fascinated by the boy because he believes he is the reincarnation of her husband Sean – even although that seems unlikely to believe, part of her wants to believe it, but she would desperately like to think it is true. Source
Well gosh Nicole, just how did you think that particular scene would be interpreted? Just another actor/director/writer/producer implying that we’re all a bunch of luddites who are just a little to dense to get their motivation. :nope:

It also doesn’t even begin to answer the bigger question as to why she accepted a role in a movie about reincarnation. :hmmm:

They are not going to admit that it is sympathetic toward pedophilia. But it is. I don’t plan on seeing it. It is typical of pornographers to claim they are just in it for “arts” sake. Yeah, right.
