I plan on watching the movie Hotel Rwanda at 9pm tonight. mgm.com/ua/hotelrwanda/main.html

Did anybody else watch this?
Oh, yes, I saw it and bought the DVD. It is an incredible movie! When we saw it in the theater, at the end my husband had tears streaming down his face. I have also read several books on the Rwanda genocide. I recomend this movie to everyone!

Let us know what you thought of it.

Yes…very good movie… Every American Citizen should watch it… every High School and University should show it and every Govt Offical should be forced to sit thru it as well.

I second the person who said that every american must see it.
great movie.

I want to see it but I read something on the back cover of the DVD that made me put it back… can’t recall specifically - think it was “very graphic disturbing images.” So my question - I know it’s a sad movie - but how graphic really? Like will I have nightmares?

My tears were flowing several times during the movie. What is tragic is that the Sudanese are suffering in the very same way depicted in this movie.
It seems that people are ‘dirt’ unless they have a bag of money around their necks.
I was thankful and proud to see Catholic religious working to save refugees.

Everyone should watch this movie. Go to the movie website first for a primer before viewing. mgm.com/ua/hotelrwanda/main.html

Carol,

I saw it 4 or 5 weeks ago. I remember about 3 scenes that were pretty graphic. Not close up gore, thankfully, but not much is left to the imagination to perceive the atrocity being committed by humans to other humans.

Well, you deserve to know. The rebel ethnic group (I think they were the “Tootsies” but I forget now), their standard weapon was the machete. They had guns too, but the most disturbing violence in the movie was adults using machetes on children.

We watched “Hotel Rwanda” on DVD the day after we watched “Sometimes in April.” Both movies are about the Rwandan genocide/tragedy. We liked both movies but my husband and I both thought that Sometimes in April was a better film. The actors were really superb in Sometimes in April. I recommend both movies. I agree that these are movies every American should see.

The Hutus were the rebels killing the Tutsis. Some of the Hutus had long held grudges from the years that the Tutsis were allowed to hold leadership roles in government.

Yes, it’s graphic but not up close gore. Let’s put it this way, I want my 13 year old stepdaughter to watch it. The disturbing images, I think, is that “human beings” did this to other human beings with no remorse. And the countries that could have stopped it, did nothing. They argued over using the word “genocide” or just “acts of genocide”. I strongly recomend seeing it. You won’t be sorry. And I agree that every American, especially politicians, should see it.

I’m so glad you let us know your feelings about the movie. I’m always greatful to hear that this movie hits it’s mark with viewers. And you’re right about Sudan. It’s so frustrating.
Thanks for the website as well.

Good movie – also showed how the UN showed NO compassion. (Except for the character that Nick Nolte played).

I posted further back #6.

I sobbed too…had the box of tissues next me the whole time.
I didn’t SEARCH for any posts on this subject. Sorry.
Can you copy and paste the link here?

It is difficult to comprehend such savagery this day and age and also that people still suffer today in the same way. I feel so helpless.

I watched that movie in my AP US History class a few months ago. It was very sad, but it was also a really good movie.
I’m so impressed that it was shown in school. I hope more schools show it as well. It’s a subject that is too important to be ignored.

Just watched this movie…beyond words is all I can say…I feel empty and sick right now… what can we do to stop this maddness? Doesn’t this type of thing continue in Sudan?

I saw the movie, bought the DVD and also read the book “Dance with the Devil” by Gen Romeo LeClaire, the UN general who was portrayed by Nick Nolte. General LeClaire has suffered mental anguish over the Rawanda affair. What happened to “Never Again” after the Nuremberg trials.Does genocide depend on who is being exterminated? The movie does a good job of depicting the US waffling with Clinton trying to decide what the definition of genocide is.

I finally got around to watching “Sometimes in April”. It was a four tissue movie for me…so very sad. Where was I ? What was I thinking while so many were being killed?
What is happening today? What don’t we know about? What do we know about and are helpless in preventing?
