So apparently there’s a movie out called “The Obvious Child” which is a romantic comedy about a woman who gets pregnant on a one-night stand, and chooses to have an abortion, and somehow romance and comedy ensue as the plot unfolds. Not my idea of a romantic comedy. I must be out of touch. But the left-leaning media is practically giddy about this movie, based on some reviews and opinion pieces I’ve seen, like this one in the Huffington Post.

they call it revolutionary to depict abortion as just something that happens and then women move on with their lives, and not a major, life-changing or tragic event. I don’t know, to me it’s not that revolutionary. It continues the the age-old pattern of the powerful oppressing the powerless, which is quite common in movies, usually depicted as a bad thing, and we are supposed to side with the weak and the powerless. But I guess when it comes to abortion somehow it’s different…

That’s interesting you mention this. While I hadn’t heard of the movie until now, it is interesting that the praise of this movie seems to parallel criticism I have heard directed towards Juno. Pro-choice leaning individuals seem to criticize Juno for treating abortion like it is a “big deal”. They would prefer that the media treat an abortion like it is an everyday, ordinary event. This seems to be part of an overall campaign of destigmatization. I know that a young woman recently filmed her abortion in an attempt to showcase how pleasant an experience it is.

Here’s the thing: I think the pro-choice community has realized that apathy is their best strategy. In the US, where abortion remains a highly charged issue, the pro-life movement is vibrant, strong and seems to be gaining major ground. In Canada, no one seems to care about abortion and so no political party will touch the issue. If both sides of the abortion issue remain passionate and vocal, both sides have have a touch of authenticity. If pro-life individuals are the only ones talking about abortion, people will try and shut them out since they don’t like conflict.

That’s my take too. I thought also about the woman who had her abortion filmed to show that it’s not a big deal. I figure this must be the new talking point, because I would like to think in the US that the opposite view is gaining ground. I think by now most everybody has seen ultrasound pictures so it is increasingly difficult to deny that a child in the womb is anything but a child, and that abortion is indeed a big deal. So to counter this there is a new wave of propaganda that takes this approach which is basically to say well, accidents happen, everyone slips up now and then, but you have to do what’s best for you right now, and move on with your life, and don’t worry, don’t think too much about it, you’ll get over it. It’s a different emotional appeal than before.

Yeah, normalization of abortion, no biggie, right? (blech)

Anyway, I was struck by the title. I mean, srsly?!?!?!? I looked it up to see if there was a reason they’d used it, and found this, referring to an old Paul simon song I’ve never heard. One guy mentions that people used to say, if a child resembled his dad, “Can’t deny that child.” Another mentioned that the voice of the song seemed to have had an easy life and so was still a child in some ways.

And so this seemed to me: that one the one hand, the unborn child is obvious, and on the other, that the woman is obviously still a child (in a way like: Don’t act like such a child!).

I mean, I don’t know, that is just soooo bizarre. Like reducing the pro-abortion argument to the point of absurdity to discredit it.

Here’s Dr. Joel Brind’s ABC or abortion/breast cancer link website:

Sooo…Susan G. Komen Foundation’s fundraising interlinked with Planned Parenthood spawned “The Obvious Child” and its obvious lie that, hey, abortion is just a walk in the park with no lasting consequences. It’s like General Motors. By the time they get sued, the profits will more than compensate for the liability. “The love of money is the root of all evil.”

What a lovely deception; buy pink ribbon m&ms to preserve life just for your money to go to destroying it. Perhaps they can be sued for the fraud that this is.

Yep, In fact, I find it strange law enforcement and the public in general gets worked up and upset whenever there is a pregnant woman murdered and the baby dies too…since when did people start caring about the lives of the unborn?..talk about hypocrites!!!

I still am amazed the police will charge a killer with 2 murders when they kill a pregnant woman…its surprising the powers that be havent put a stop to this? I mean, they cant be caring towards the unborn in one situation and they totally ok with abortion…that is just not possible, its either one or the other.

Something tells me though, law enforcement and our leaders just use anything they can, in any way they can, when it suits their needs at the time…this needs to be stopped, its either murder to kill the unborn or its not…cant be both.

Interesting comparison of “The Obvious Child,” and “Juno.” Juno finds a couple to adopt her baby. Still the ending is a little bitter. She had wanted the child to have a mom and a dad. But because dad turned out to be immature, the baby ends up only with the adoptive mom.

I haven’t read anything about this new move, but apparently the woman has an abortion and then happily moves on with her life. The baby, of course, does not, because the baby is dead.

The elephant in the room.
