Hello!

I watched the movies about Padre Pio,St Teresa of Calcutta(The letters) and St Teresa of Jesus(the spanish mini series) and I loved them, especially because they follow the true stories accurately.I’ve stumbled upon movies like St Rita and the fact that they only took a few things from her life and the rest is only a fairytale…that’s ridiculous.I also read on this forum that other movies have this problem, like Giuseppe Moscati. Can you recommend me some accurate movies?Thank you!

I’ve always liked “A Man for All Seasons” about St. Thomas More (the 1968 version). It’s pretty true to life. It depicts his trials with King Henry VIII over the king’s divorce from Katherine of Aragon.

I think you’re going to have a hard time finding movies about saints where smething isn’t fictionalized at least slightly, even if it’s just shortening some timeline to speed up the action.

Having said that, there are two movies on St. Francis of Assisi that are pretty good:
“Francis of Assisi” from 1961, co-starring (as St. Clare) Dolores Hart, who shortly thereafter left Hollywood to enter a convent, where she is now Mother Dolores Hart.

And “Brother Sun, Sister Moon” from 1972, which is definitely a more hippie-era take, but did a good job of conveying St. Francis’ poverty and his love for the poor and downtrodden.

I know there’s one about St. Maria Goretti but it’s in Italian. There are probably English subtitles though. And the one on the life of our beloved Pope St. John Paul II. It also briefly features St. Maxmillian Kolbe and depicts the story of his martyrdom by the Nazis and its effects on the man he saved. I never forgot because, in the movie, that man, who wasn’t religious before St. Kolbe’s sacrifice, was shown kneeling by his bed with his rosary every night, for an hour, since that day. It was very moving and I wondered if it happened that way in real life as well.

I’m definitely ok with timeline speeding and some small changes.Thank you for the recommendations

Another one I just thought of is “A Time for MIracles” (1980), a made-for-TV movie about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton that played on US TV around the time of her canonization.
It’s hard to believe network TV in US made a movie about a Catholic saint and showed it in prime time!

It’s pretty true to life - her shrine in Maryland shows it to visitors.
I think you can find it on Youtube.

Hidden Life , Bl. Franz Jagerstatter, if blesseds count

I have a soft spot in my heart for Brother Son and Sister Moon. It is extremely hippie, but watching it now, it sort of reinforces the peaceful/revolutionary way of his thinking.

Also the theme song is catchy… The lyrics are a canticle of Saint Francis, but the tune is pure folk.
