Hey everyone, i haven’t posted for a while because of a lot of crazy stuff happening. The biggest would be that my husband and I have decided to move. I’m looking at a few apartments today. We’ve been having a lot of financial problems and hopefully, moving will eliviate some of it.
Since we’ve decided to turn over a new leaf, I’ve been trying to think of ways to really save money, but none have really come to me.

I was wondering if any of you have any good ways to save money? I’m also wondering if you have any strategies to stick with a budget, since that seems to be nearly impossible for us !!!

Thanks so much!!!

Sarcophgas, Good luck with the move. Trust in God and keep the faith. Saving money is something that is very difficult for me also. I save but my wife spends so I have no solutions. I wish you the best.

It’s the opposite for us…DH spends…a lot.😃 . Thank you very much for your reply!!

Good luck with the move; I did one recently myself. Ours was across the country, and ended up being a lot more expensive than we thought.

I don’t have good advice for you on sticking to a budget. My husband and I are pretty bad ourselves. We do have all of our bills on autopay (except rent), which is the only thing keeping us paying them on time. If you’re really low on money and can’t pay all the bills when they come due because you haven’t been paid yet, call the companies and ask if your due date can be moved. That worked for us in the past.

Hey there - great to hear an update! Thanks. A move will be wonderful for you.

I also have everything on auto-deduct. It does help to have everything paid on time.

I also opted for satellite dish instead of cable tv. I love the satellite reception, and have never had problems yet always seemed to have them with cable. Using satellite costs half of what cable does in my area.

Also - how about shopping around for auto insurance. If you have not done so in a while and have a decent driving record - shopping around can save BIG BUCKS!

I just recently switched to Geico and saved $500 annually and maintained the exact level of insurance. Now mind you, my old insurance broker had not paid attention to me for years and never shopped around for me so I was really overpaying. Maybe you are too!

cut up all your credit cards except the one with the lowest interest rate, keep it locked up to use only in emergencies or for necessary travel. If one of you travels for business, keep one only for that use and turn in expense reports on time, and appy expense reimbursement directly on that card. that should be a card with a generous grace period.

direct deposit paychecks and auto-pay recurring bills. make contributions to your IRA or other savings another automatic deduction. Learn to live on less, you don’t need what you think you need.

Moving is a great time to go thru everything to see what you need, what you no longer use or wear. Go through your entire wardrobe, keep what you actually wear. Anything you haven’t used in 2 years goes to consignment shop or goodwill. This includes shoes. Dryclean, launder, mend, iron the rest, you have a lot of clothes you don’t wear because they need care.

Stuff to good to toss and unused should be sold on consignment or e-bay, this includes collectibles (including those you bought on e-bay). put proceeds into savings, not in the general fund.

scale down eating out to one special date-nite a week, get coffee at work, not Starbucks, brown-bag it, unless you need business lunches, then budget for them and don’t order drinks.

eating out is the single biggest budget drain for young couples, the second is non-nutritious grocery purchases, limit you snack foods, both these suggestions will benefit health, weight loss and financial solvency. It is okay to spend grocery money for convenience if you both work, but not at the cost of nutrition. don’t pay for extra sodium and sugar you don’t need anyhow.

scale down your living demands now before kids come, repeat you do not need something that is a wanna, not a hafta.

Thanks everyone for your replies…I have another question to add.

We found out that we’ll have to move relatively fast, within a week or 2. Does anyone have any advice on moving ie. packing, making it less stressful etc. We have family in the area with big trucks so transportation isn’t a problem mostly just the packing, change of address etc.

Thanks again!!

pack and clean one room at a time, kitchen last, but have everything done before moving day. change of address is by email, get info from USPS

Ah, moving, so much fun.

You can never ever have too many boxes. If you think you have to many, get more! Start packing today!

As it was posted before, now is a great time to purge yourself of all those unwanted, unused items that we are too lazy to take care of any other time. I know our attic can use a good go through but I probably won’t until we move again.

I have a picture of my son in his little baby swing and he has boxes and boxes all around him. He couldn’t have cared less about the commotion going on around him. He was just as happy as ever.

AN ORGANIZED INVENTORY OF WHAT IS IN EACH CTN. Number the ctns and detail what’s in each of them.
